What engine do I have?

I was just wondering how I can figure out what engine I have. I know it's either a 327 or 307, but I don't know which one. How can I find out.

Re: What engine do I have?

Casting number is behind the head on the drivers side, assuming the gunk isn't to thick, there is another number on the block above the water pump bolts on the passenger side. www.mortec.com has casting numbers.

Re: What engine do I have?

if it's original, and a 68, then look at your option sheet, a 327 will be listed, a 307 would not be listed since it was the base engine.
If you suspect it isn't original, than it could be anything

Re: What engine do I have?

Ok, I guess it's a 307. Could someone tell me more about this engine? Horsepower? Litres? Thanks.

Re: What engine do I have?

Look on the front passenger side of the block for a stamped number followed by some letters. The letters represent a suffix code which will give you specific info found at this website.

Re: What engine do I have?

On the 68's i've owned the 307's were 2bbl , and the 327's were 4bbl . Is this always true ? Just curious .
