Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
You can use a serpentine setup from any 4.3 vortec, which years I'm not quite sure.

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
Hi,
They use a long, reverse rotation water pump. If you watch Trucks they just did something similar using a 4.3l from an s10 onto a replacement V8. I hope this helps. |

Bookmarked this thread, hopefully someone will have the year models necessary for this swap. Great info.

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
I don't think the year model is really a factor....as long as it is a serpentine set up. I think there are a few different variations, though. Like one has a seperate narrow belt for the power steering, I think, while others have only the one wider belt. I saw a set up on a full sized Buick (Park Avenue I think) on Wednesday evening that had everything on the passenger side and an electric water pump (stock). Not even a serpentine bracket at all on the driver's side.
Late 80's thru late 90's should be safe.

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
I have '93 4.3 or smallblock. Doesn't matter if it's s-10, blazer, or truck as far as I can tell. Try to get the aluminum brackets.

***Edited by Moderator***
2 things not to overlook when making the serpentine swap: -the water pump needs to match the serpentine setup, it runs backwards from the "normal" pump -the fan blades are also pitched in the opposite direction so the "normal" fan wont work Similar setups are found on pickups/tahoes/suburbans from 1988 and newer, as well as 4.3 S10s and Astros.

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
As mentioned, any of the 4.3, 305, 350 serpentine set ups will work as long as they are pre-96. When the Vortec V8 came out they changed all the mountings (alternator on Passenger side). If you don't have AC, you can get an AC delete pulley from the dealer. The only thing you have to watch for is pulley alignmentment. Some of the earlier 4.3's crank pulley won't work on the V-8 because the 4.3 used a thinner damper, thus the pulley is deeper. Not sure of the year though. Mine is off a 94 4.3 and everything is the same as the V8 except some of the upper bracing rods, which many folks don't use (without a problem either).

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
I plan to go to electric fan(s). How does this series serpentine work with electric fans?

Re: what serpintine set up to use ?
That is all anyone is running that has gone with it. Mine isn't hooked up yet, but I have some fans from a Windstar with the big V6, I know one with fans from a dodge, and other various brands plus aftermarket kits too.

It was more for info on what one could expect to pay for a nice complete setup, but point taken.
