Re: Is this really that rare??

Maybe rare, but definetly not worth $18k. Rare doesn't always equal added value.

A running Yugo is rare, but it's still not worth $50.

Re: Is this really that rare??

I agree besides it's more rare to have $18,000 laying around for me so since the $18,000 is so rare someone should give me $36,000 for it...wait a minute I think thats how my home loan works! LMAO Either way I know absoloutely nothing about that truck or it's rarity. My old man always told me stuff is worth whatever someone will pay for it no matter how rare or valuable it might be.

Re: Is this really that rare??

I don't see any graphics that make it anything special? Is a "bicentenial edition" just a truck made in 1976? 1,000 swb 2wd trucks sounds like it could be right to me.
I would also like to know what kind of documentation he has for production numbers and how he can verify there is only 51 left.
Lastly, I don't care how special it is, its not worth 18k. If it were all original, low mileage - truly low, not low for a 30 year old truck, in perfect shape I still think it would be hard to get that.
IMO.

Re: Is this really that rare??

I know that often times people post on craigslist just because it's free and who know's maybe some poor fool will buy it????? Looks like a decent truck but nothing I couldn't pay 5% of that for if I was patient.

Ditto that.

It's a nice truck, but unless someone is a collector AND this guy has paper work, its just an average truck in pretty good shape.

Re: Is this really that rare??

Yeah, at first I thought it was a pretty sweet deal at $1800, but then I realized I had missed one of the zeros on the end. I was like WTF?!? Really? That is worth that?

Re: Is this really that rare??

The only thing that makes me think that this is not total BS is the trim. It "appears" to have a gold insert in it. The side moulding with a gold insert was used on all 1977 production trucks. The only exception to that rule was on special edition trucks like the Gentleman Jim and Beau James series.
BS or not, the truck is not nice enough to bring 18k....

Re: Is this really that rare??

All the different G.M. Bicentenial's that I saw and this was when they were brand new , used all 3 colors of the flag , red , white and blue in some combination. If the truck is a bicentenial the leading interior color would be red .

That is correct. Now that I think about the "Spirit of 76" series I think they were all white with red and blue stripes.

Re: Is this really that rare??

I've seen a couple of these in wrecking yards. They looked like this one, so I think the paint is correct. Many people confuse the 'Impact 76' stripe package with the Spirit of '76 trucks.

The Spirit of '76 trucks that I've seen were all pretty plain like the one for sale here. I don't see $18k there though...

I hope it's ok with Jeff, but here's a pic of an Impact truck I linked off of his site. This isn't a Spirit of '76 truck.

Here's a white door panel from the inside of a Spirit truck, also from Jeff's site...

The door panel is white but how about the rest of the interior . My " GUESS " would be it was a combo to reflect the Spirit of 76 depending on how the outside colors were used . For example there was one spirit series Caddilac eldo I saw that was painted white with thin blue & red stripes outside and the interior had a blue and white seat / panel combination but the carpets were dark red . I don't remember how many varations they had across the total G.M. line up for that promotion but I'm sure it was varied enough to be interesting .

Re: Is this really that rare??

I owned a 1976 Bonanza with the Spirit of 76 package. Mine was blue with white inside the side trim. No red anywhere. The interior was a combo of white and blue. The dash and pad were blue, the door panels were white, and the seat was white with blue inserts. I thought it was unique, but definately not rare. I sold it to a friend, his kid wrecked it, got it fixed, and the motor blew up. Maybe I should get it back and make a fortune (ha ha).

Just saw one of these at the boneyard A 76 bonanza longbed. With the same door panels. Body was white over blue. I nabbed the Spirit of 76 emblems. Maybe I should go back for the panels....

If I were you I would get the door panels and anything else that was Spirit of 76 specific. Take some pics if you go back for Jeff's website.
