new old beds
Has anyone built a fleetside bed from new parts? I am down to the wire on finishing my truck, but I still don't have a bed. I'm faced with putting a late model step side bed on it or building an original from new parts. If anyone knows where I can get an original stepside or swb fleetside bed, let me know.

depending on where you're located,I would imagine someone on the forums can hook you up.

Try the Parts board. You can either look to see what's available, or subscribe and post a WTB thread.

Re: new old beds
it helps if we know where you are though... I can't imagine being forced to do an ugly bed.

Re: new old beds
Well, my truck is in Georgia and I live in DC. I would be willing to pick up a bed if it is in good shape and between DC and Georgia. I had to ditch the original bed because it was in such bad shape. I really would like to have a fleetside swb bed, but i'll take a stepside at this point. I have found a few descent beds, but I would have to buy the whole truck and I don't have anywhere to put a whole truck. Besides, no one wants to buy one without a bed!

Re: new old beds
If you have the time, it may pay for you to buy the truck, take the bed and then part out the rest.

Re: new old beds
well, you have a LOT of mileage between you and your rig, and I'll bet a kick in the daddy parts that you'd be able to locate one...even at a good cost, within 100 miles of your normal rout home.
I would recomend paying the 25 bucks to become a Site Supporter, and then posting a wanted to buy thread in the parts section. Or, you could buy one of these trucks you say you come across, and then sell it minus bed, or part it out, on said poarts board, and if you're good, you'll make back most, if not all of the cost. What ever is left, you cut up and take to the scrap yard. At 100 bucks a ton, you'll get a few bucks for it. |
