Vintage style wheels

Thought I would start a thread regarding vintage wheels. I'm having a hell of a time deciding on wheels. wheels are probably the most defining thing you put on your truck. Here are just a few to look at and vote on. I know there are many more, these are just the one's I had saved, So please post your favorites.

I find myself pretty fond of the cast center type wheels because they just look a little more "down to business".

The wheels are numbered in the lower lefthand corner.

Hope this comes out right....never done a poll post.

I would definatly say that it depends on the truck, stock? lowered? color, etc...

1,2 or 9, depending on wheel size, truck height and truck color.

About a 4/6 or 5/7 drop.

My truck in particuliar will have the stock lower mldgs installed with the color being similar to Marina Blue (kinda a med bright met blue).

I've always been fond of torque thrusts, and I was bummed when they started making them again (back around 1990) that they brought back the D-spoke instead of the original straight spoke. I know that they are making them now, but they changed the barrel and outer lip of the rim from the original, and I don't much care for them. I'd be interested in 2 piece straight spoke 17s or 18s if they made them. Do they yet? That being said, it's hard to beat the new big inch polished torque thrusts, as their popularity can attest. I like the kidney bean copies, too, but not for 67-72s. They are better suited for 50s stuff, or traditional street rods. The Cobra copies are neat, too, and I think they would look great on just about any Ford project, but would seem strange to me on a Chevy. Just my .06

wheel choice is tuff. i would stay away from 1 unless you want to have the same look so many people already have. 7 and 8 are ferd style wheels. but...its your rig, which one of em really grabs you?

The charcoal grey(anthracite?) ones look best on black vehicles, and some dark grey ones, if the color matches close. The Torque Thrust II's look good on just about everything...probably why everybody and their brother has 'em. If it was me, I would want something a little different...something chrome or billet in prolly an 18"...modern, but not too ghetto. Wheel Vintiques and Intro have some good lookin wheels, however the Intro's can be pretty pricey. I think board member SeeTen had the Wheel Vintiques Billet Lakester on his truck, and they looked very good.

I have a picture of a Marina Blue short fleet with rallyes,chrome maybe.It looks so good.That color should make you go with what a Camaro in 67-72 would look good with.But for more excitement,I`m thinking Torque Thrusts(#2)and paint the inner grille and headlight doors to match the spokes.If it has a tailgate band,match that,too.

I voted for #2, mainly because those are what I want to run on my truck. 18x8 (255/55/18) in the front and 20x10 (305/50/20) in the back with the Carlisle tri-bar spinners. Here's a rendering Zumo did for me.

The Saltflats #s 4 and 6, have me had. The perfect balance of no nonsense, all buisness, old school, anti-bling, look at the wheels quick cause there's a ZZ454 under the hood and your time to look will be short indeed...

Geeez, I actually like them all. Theres a lot of wheels I dont like, but I like the old school stuff & you picked some nice ones. If I had to pass on any of those it would probably be #7 & #8.

What about the 70's style slots? You can get those up to 17". I'm surprised how good the gray center kidney beans look on the red 68.

The TTII are hard to beat and look great.......until you go to a cruise and everyone and there brother is running them. I also thought about running some 17" American Racing slots but the dish is just not the same and it kind of takes away from the look. Halibrand makes some nice wheels if you want a retro wheel but you will pay dearly for these bad boys. I am running the Wheel Vintiques billet Cruzer. For all purposes they are identical to the Halibrand but they are Forged Billet and the Halibrand is cast. I picked mine up from www.newstalgiawheel.com .

Hey Jim,what year is your truck anywho?I think the polished,like TTIIs,lean towards "custom" or "showy" and the cast center "performance" as far as trying to establish a "look".If I was going for a 69-72 factory muscle truck look,I`d go #2.They just say,"MEAN".

I looked at the TTII with the grey center when I was at newstalgia wheel. I told the guy who was showing me around that I really liked them but I was afraid that polish would get in to the textured grey area and be a booger to get out. He kind of looked around to see if anyone was listening and said "it will!". I left it at that and ordered something else.

Wouldn't some carefully placed masking tape during the polishing procedure eliminate this problem without a whole lot of effort? Just thinking out loud.

I like 3, 4 and 6. I guess I just like the kidney bean style. They kinda remind me of the old Cutlass wheels, painted the same color as the car, with the chrome trim in the "bean holes", center caps and "beauty bands", those were beautiful wheels! Plus you don't see that style every day. Be different.

2 and 9 how can you go wrong with the grey centers? My brother had a set on a 67 chevelle back in the eighties, and I loved them so much I am buying a set for my 67 chevelle (4 door) don't laugh, have you senn the retarded prices people are paying for 2-doors?! I like the salt flat style as well and you'd be hard pressed to see ALOT of trucks with the same wheels, but lets face it, with only a finite amount of different wheel styles, you will see someone with your wheels eventually.

id like to have #1 on mine but im gonna go with the old school vette rally (made for a truck from EARLY WHEEL COMPANY). pretty much any wheel ya pick will look good (it only matters to you)

Well I like TTII's, but like See Ten said, you goto a show and they're everywhere. I personally went with the Hopsters. They look new age but retro at the same time. The Salt Flats I never really liked at all until just recently I saw a board members truck with a set of the polished ones on his 72. They look killer on his truck with the stock trim. Again, it all depends on what "look" you are going for. I think you'll be happy with your decision either way.

For my 71 W/68 front clip it will be #2 in 20 & 18's. Nice clasic look but sized for todays builds. #7 or 8 will be on my 71 Bronco once it is converted to 2wd and dropped. They remind me of some of the new mustange wheels.
