Removing ignition without key

Anyone know how to remove the ignition lock with destroying the bezel? PO promised keys but never came through. I know a new switch is under $10 but I have to remove the old one. Would rather not pay a locksmith big bucks to make a service call. Thanks in advance.....Rick

Re: Removing ignition without key

There is actually a special tool for that that I did see in The Truck Shop catalog (www.truckandcarshop.com).....not that it does you any good now!

A small flat head screw driver with maybe some masking tape on the end or something to cushion it, and stick it in one of the 3 slots on the bezel and try to tap it lose in a counter clockwise motion (it's threaded onto the lockset holder). That's how I got mine off.

good luck.

Take a small screwdriver and pry off the stainless cover that's on the key cylinder. Then you can unscrew the bezel nut and get it out. Just did this 2 weeks ago on a parts truck.

Re: Removing ignition without key

Thanks ratrod, was thinking that is what I would have to do. Sacto, the key cylinder is larger than the bezel. Was hoping for an easier method. I think I took one apart on a parts truck that way about8 yrs ago. ....Rick
