jyard find NP A833 4speed OD n stuff "pics"

Well even though I am moving from my place, I still couldnt resist heading back to one of my yards to see if he still had this truck with this 4 SpeedOD in it, so headed back there on thursday and sure enough there it was AND he had just got a newer 84 in that had ont also!!!! So after an afternoon of getting REAL dirty and hot (92 deg that day) I pulled it out of the 84 and a few other trinkets and took her home.. shifter, crossmember, driveshaft and all... (Picked up a 73-77 floor shift tilt, slightly cracked 69-72 steering wheel, and console out of 79 blazer)... hot and sweaty but got er out!!! I wanted the other OD trans from the 81 too, and has a fact tach/vac dash for a 81-87 but he isnt being so gracious with those yet... but the pics are below, two are from the interior of the 84 (oh and yes it is a fact black interior, and yes i will be heading back to get as much of it as i can!!!) and the trans out and in the bed of my 74... the hum in the 84 is alot higher than my 74 C10's however i plan on using this in my little 70 GMC SWB at some time for my next dd project.... well here are the pics.. enjoy!!!!

If you decide to put a T handle or something on one of those shifters, I would like to buy one of those shifter knobs, if you would want to part with it ????, mine is cracked pretty good.

Would you have a pic of the drivers side bellhousing bolts on the tranny ? I had to use a grade 8 stud and nut for clearance on the lower left. Just wondering what the factory did - thanks.

BTW - check the end play on the rear bearing /mainshaft, mine was a little loose, had to take it apart anyway to change speedo gears, so we just put all new bearings and synchros. I have a couple of good synchro rings if you just need 1 or 2.

hey guys.... dont feel bad, my shift knob is pretty cracked up too... im just gonna put a traditional white hurst knob on it when i get that far... i even wnet over to look at the knob on the other truck and it was cracked up too... so no dice... i wonder if there are o few of these out there NOS???? I also noticed two other things... first the trans hump was a hgih hump in the donor 84... did you guys need a high hump to swap it into our trucks?? and second mine has a flat style hurst competition plus looking shifter and the other truck has a round shifter like yours... any difference???? \

Todd, Im gonna try to get that other trans eventually by the end of this summer... the bed is LOADED with brake rotors, and i have to get the other truck running (had to for htis one too) before i can pull anything... hes a great guy, and good deals, but he has his funny ways about things... I odubt its going anywhere for thie time being.. its been there 2 years allready, but if i can get it outta there its yours...

thanks for all that additional info, and i did put the trans into storage allready cuz im movin down to the cities in about a month.. so prolly no MAJOR vehicle projects for a little while... but im addicted so who knows....

oh... almost forgot to mention... all the bolts from bellhousing to engine block were 9/16 head hex bolts and if i remember the 4 trans to belhousing bolts were 3/4 head hex bolts, and I was in kind of a twisted position under the truck but the drivers side bolts were a little harder to get a wrench into... I used my ratcheting combination wrenches for those trans to bellhousing bolts... ill tryt o take the camera next time i get out there and take a pic of the truck that still has the trans in.. see how they are... any other questions let me know... if anyone is interested in doing this swap the bellhousing is definetly a unique critter and so is the trans mount to the crosmember....

If the price is reasonable, I'd get the other one, even if just for parts. Once you get into the swap you'll want spares... (you don't even have to have it shipped!) I looked for over a year and couldn't find in a junkyard, let alone one in the truck it came in.

Mike - mine has the round lever for a shifter. I have heard before that there can be bellhousing differences. Mine, guess I was lucky, has the standard chevy pattern. Thats likey why the bellhousing to tranny bolts were easy to remove. With the standard chevy pattern, since that tranny is so beefy, the lower left bolt likey has to be a stud and nut setup, there is no room on mine to get a proper length bolt in from the back. I can get some pics if you want leme know.

PS - I'll take even a cracked knob if you want to part with it !
