air conditioning problem?

I charged up my 72 air system. It works great but I tried the heater to make sure it worked as well but the heat comes out the air cond vents. I think something might be wrong. Any one have this problem? Thanks Rick

Re: air conditioning problem?

Your outlet door is jammed or not adjusted properly. When you move the "outlet" control lever to the right you should get air at the floor only (heat). Move it to the left you get dash air (A/C). The outlet door control is visible on the front of the heater box above the transmission hump. Take the cable off it, move it both ways with the blower running and see if it works. If it does, adjust your cable, if not, you need a new door.

Re: air conditioning problem?

The A/C diverter box flap door breaks down on its metal shaft it pivots on over time and starts spinning on its shaft when you move lever to block off the A/C vents, if you remove diverter box and drill a few small holes in plastic at shaft and place epoxy in them it will rebond flap door to the shaft again so that it functions properly.

Re: air conditioning problem?

I cut a little metal flap of sheet metal, tacked that to the shaft, and pop riveted the plastic door to the metal flap.
