Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

First of all, these are the ONLY two that I'm looking at right now because of money, so I don't get the Hedman, Dynomax or other brand suggestions.

I can get the Flowtech set through my work at O'Reilly's for $180. I know some guys have used the Summit brand and said they are pretty good. I just wanted some opinions on if anybody has used the Flowtech and what they thought of them. The only reason I'm leaning towards the Flowtech is that if they get screwed up or anything I could easily return them or swap them out. Here's the link the the Summit Headers:

Doesn't your truck have hookers on it????. If it does, send them to Airborne Coatings and have them coated inside/outside for $225 and be done!. You know yours fit. My buddy used them back in February and they look awesome!.

Re: Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

Yeah, I do have hookers on it now. I didn't think about seeing what it would cost to have them coated. I'll see if there are some local places around. I'll take some shots from the bottom to give a better idea of what I have.

Here's a pic of the bottom and one of the engine bay to see what I have now. With my luck with my truck in the past, I want the ones that fit like the ones I have. NO MODS!!!! I'll screw somethingelse up unintentionally.

Re: Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

I had a set of hookers on a big block that looked all rusty like yours. Then I had them sent out and coated. Well worth it... then they just bolt back up. If you get new headers then you have to get them matched back up at a muffler shop and then thers more $$$. You have a good set of headers now i would just coat them, you be better off in the long run

WOW!! Those look great. If you don't mind how much did it cost to get yours coated? I know prices will be different around the country and in Canada where you are, but I was just wondering.

I know 70c10 said he paid $225

Re: Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

Yea if memory serves me correct they were around 250??, and i didnt want to use a local guy because i heard a few bad things about him, So I thew them on a greyhound to Calgary and paid 70 for shipping. A friend had his done there a few years back and they still look new. It was totaly worth it, never looked back, easy to clean and they dont "color". The only thing about coating used headers to new ones is that they do cost a little more. Harder on the "chemicals" they say. Also the finish is smoother on new headers because there is no rust pitting. I also got a set of stainless header bolts from ARP to finish them off. Ohh and new grade 8 bolts for the collectors also

i've got the uncoated flowtech on my '69. they look the exact same as the summit brand in the pic they have on there website. the clear the clutch linkage no prob, it you've got a manual. i've then on my dd since april and no prob out of them. the collectors end right in the crossmember that the bell housing bolts to. chris.

Hey Keith, I can't find any info on a Chrome Wizard in Nashville. Any idea where they are at? Maybe they changed names.

Re: Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

my friend ordered the summit brand and also some hooker headers, both of them blew out gaskets due to warped flanges. he ended up getting hedmans and me and him both agree they're the best. although all i've ever had is hedmans i like em

Re: Ceramic Coated Headers...Summit vs. Flowtech

I know its a drive, but I got my headers done for my Mustang at a place just east of Knoxville. He coated them inside and out for $180 if memory serves me. They were done in less than a week.

Check 'em out. http://www.amr-coatings.com/metallic_ceramic.html

I'm not sure, but I think there are two local places:
There's a place in Gallatin off airport road north and a place on 109 at the intersection of 109 and 70.

These guys are up the road from me. I went to school with the owner's nephew. They do great work for a good price. I'd give em a call, B.
