Side trim question
I have noticed that some Chevy and GMC trucks between 1973 and the late 70's did not receive the complete side trim . Some have the complete trim and some have the top and front fender trim only . What was the reason that these trucks didnt receive the lower trim from the lower front fender back to the tailgate ? Just curious since I am buying one that is like this . I am thinking of adding the remaining trim . What do you think ? I should have the truck tomorrow as long as everything goes well . Frank

Re: Side trim question
Most often I have only seen that on solid colored truck, or trucks with the two tone only being the roof. I think it was more common on Custom Deluxe models. Maybe it was a dealer installed package.

Re: Side trim question
Frank, congratulations on the new truck. It caught my eye too.
By the way, my father-in- laws 79 Chevy short bed that I am restoring is a solid color and has no exterior trim either, but it is a Custom Deluxe model, pretty basic.

Re: Side trim question
Nice truck Frank. If it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures, you did very well. Think I'm envious..........

Re: Side trim question
Its a trim-level thing. Scottsdales and some Cheyennes only came with the upper bodyside trim. I'm sure some Custom Deluxes were optioned with it, just like some Scottsdales and Cheyennes were optioned with the fulltrim. It might also be based on the paintscheme, as mentioned above.
That is a fine truck nonetheless.

Re: Side trim question
Just an FYI for those of you considering replacing trim. As boatpuller discovered the aftermarket trim is nothing like the OEM trim. I ordered a couple of pieces from LMC just to see what it looked like. It's not bad, but it doesn't come anywhere near looking like the OEM trim.
If you are going to replace your 73-80 trim plan on buying it all at once from the same supplier. Even NOS pieces of GM trim won't look exactly the same. Guess how I know....

Re: Side trim question
Thanks to everyone for the responses . I would like to find the complete set of GM trim . I dont know if I would add it to this one or not but I do have a 77 that could use it . Frank

Re: Side trim question
Frank:
That truck is gorgeous! I have always liked Cheyennes because they offer substantially everything the Silverados do, but offer a few twists of their own and are much less common. Maybe the following notes can provide some answers about side trim. I made these notes specifically refering to 1975 through 1980 trucks, although, with some trim level name changes, most of it is true for 1973 and 1974 models as well... Hope some of this is helpful to somebody. Ken Lewis |

Re: Side trim question
FWIW, that was "supposed to be" Blazer trim. It didn't quite fit.
