Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
Do you have it there?
What's the total length? You planning on hooking up the column ignition switch? How about the wipers and high beam switches? You'll have to cut the bottom of the dash and the inst panel too due to the added diameter of the column. |

Yup, that's why I mentioned cutting up the dash for the added diameter.
Are you looking at this just to add a tilt, or do you want to remove all the stuff from the dash and have it all on the column? |

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
I like the c-10 alot!!!!
but my first love is tpi in a bird. I really like the column and wouldnt mind having the same column in my truck that I have grown to love in all 9 of the birds I have owned from the end of the shaft to the end of the horn measures 36 1/2 inches I took a bunch of pictures but the pit bull ruined the cord to my computer last night chasing the cat. I am learning that this is my fault for leaving it out. It took me 30 years to begin to realize that most bad things that happen to me could have been avoided if I took extra measures instead of putting the blame elsewhere now that I am off the soapbox I will post the pictures later on this evening |

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
if titl is all you are looking for, there's MUCH easier ways about it. Hell I have a couple tilt columns right here for sale.

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
yep that looks verry similar to the chevy colum i put in mine on the end of the colum i think you should cut the otiginal bracketry that holds it to the fire wall in order to get it through the hole in the wall

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
the columns are about the same size. all I need to do is wire the ign, turn signals and wipers.
I want to cut the 86 column wires right before the plug and splice the connector of the 69 column so it would plug right into the harness. I was also thinking of plugging the 86 bird fuse box into the truck and rewiring it for updated equipment |

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
I got the wiring diagram from a chilton book for the 80 colum and then just matched up the wires to the 67
You will probaly need a custom dash bezel to fit over the larger colum shaft

Re: 86 firebird column in a 69- inovative thinkers
my buddy is the shizzel!
he had the idea a couple of days ago to put the turn signal wiring from the old 69 column into the 86 column. I was just going to splice wires trial and error style but the column had to be taken apart to tighten the tilt mech. he took the base of the 69 turn signal mech and mated it with the upper part of the 86 mechanism I know I know pics right! you can blame my rechargeable batteries "I hate them so much"-HOMER heres to eddie, I wouldnt be able to do it without him |
