Are chevrolet and GMC parts completely interchangeable?
I realize some parts are interchangeable. Is everything the same on these trucks. For example can I buy a front brake kit for a C series chev and put it on my GMC. I was looking at the Classic Industries catalogues and the pictures of the parts look like the ones in my truck.

Re: Are chevrolet and GMC parts completely interchangeable?
Pretty much.
The only thing that will throw you for a loop, is the front fenders. inn69, chevy went to a new fender... GMC kept the 68 style, and ran it untill 72. The grill is pbviously not the same as chevy, and the 68 fenders are needed to run it. Other than that, it's prettymuch all cosmetic stuff and little details. Other than that, the GMC is the same as the chevy. Well, the GMC had a v-6 avalible that chevy didn't get... |

Did GMC 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive trucks come with springs or leafs?
I thought they came with leafs as the GMC used to be considered more of a work truck? |

Re: Are chevrolet and GMC parts completely interchangeable?
Mine has leaf springs. I have not been under the truck yet to have a good look around. I had heard the same kind of think about GMC being more of a work truck.

Re: Are chevrolet and GMC parts completely interchangeable?
In GENERAL Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd trucks came with all coils and GMC trucks came with all Leafs... BUT you could order either truck with either set-up or a mix of the two. For example, I've seen a lot of chevys with leaf rears and coil fronts, and I've seen a lot of GMCs (actually most of the GMC's I have seen) have had the leaf rear with the coil front. I have a coil suspension off a 71 GMC under my 67 Chevy
Does your truck have leafs in the front too?

Leaf rear/coil front on my 72 GMC. I put new coils up front, leafs in back to lower it.

Re: Are chevrolet and GMC parts completely interchangeable?
4 wheel drive had leafs all around. Period
2 wheel drive, 10 - 30, had coils up front. Period. Both of those are for Chevy, and GMC. Generally, GMC had leafs standard in back. However, sometimes there were coils oin back on GMC trucks, and it had not been specified on the SPID. I have personally seen this on a small block LWB 1/2 ton, a V-6 SWB 1/2 ton, and on an inline LWB 1/2 ton... all 3 were 1969 models. |
