My 71 Build - Update 9-4-06
Just picked up this '71 K5 Monday night for $150. Plan it to make it a weekend warrior offroad rig for trails and camping when my 83 baed truggy is overkill and heck with the price of diesel it may become a part time DD. The reason the guy parked it in 2000 was the rear end went out on his way home from out of town then driving home in front wheel drive the battery "blew up" (the positive stud broke off battery) so he towed it home and that was that. It has a 350/4 speed/NP205/D44/12b 3.07s currently. Is that 4 speed a SM420 or 465 for that year? Plans are to hopefully resurect the engine first off then I already have scored a 14FF rear and D44 front w/ 4.10s but the front is only to the knuckles, I need to find 8 lug outers still. After it is running and moving on its own I will start taking care of rust and whatnot. I also plan on ditching the half cab ASAP as soon as I can find a full top or soft top. Anyways here she is:

Re: My new toy
I've never seen a rear end gone THAT bad. Cool halfcab on it, you stole it for $150. Your tranny should be a SM465.

Re: My new toy
***Edited by Moderator***. I figured I stole it for that price. I already have some front lift springs built and have measured for shakle flip. Thanks for the comments guys!!! BTW that rear end center section might turn into a lamp stand or something, serious carnage.

Re: My new toy
here is the only ones I have right now. can take more of detailed areas if you want. I'm not sure if this is factoy or something someone made. Also the bed rails, one side has button snaps only and the other side only has oval holes with nut-certs in them. Has a bedside been replaced at some time?

Re: My new toy
Cool score.
Ponder the 1/2 cab thing awhile, you might decide you like it after all. I think having it on to wheel with would be about the best of all worlds... No soft top to rip, yet easy off when the weather turns nice. JMO. |

Re: My new toy
Sorry, didn't mean to seem like was trying to pawn the half cab off. I have a lead on a full top here locally and will see how that turns out otherwise it will go in the classifieds. Does it look like a factory half cab or someones conglomeration?

Re: My new toy
well I got the fron lift on it today. Lifted almost exaclty 4 inches after I measure from hub/floor to fender. Next try to get engine running and rear shakle flip built. Had to get some parts so went ahead and installed front springs to amke it easier. Apperently the battery cable rubbed and rced to exhaust so will just build a new cable and the bought a fuel filter and oil filter to change the fluids and ditch the mig bulk tank in the bed and just plumb in a small 10gal fuel cell I have till I can find a tank to fit in the stock location. Engine turns over by hand so thats a good sign!!!! Will head back to shop here in a bit, just waiting for it to cool off some.

Re: My new toy

Re: My new toy
Good find. The half-cab looks like the one I have that came on my Blazer when I bought it. The metal tag inside said the company was Pacesetter. The bulkhead was still there as well. Good luck!

Re: My new toy
Well I got the shackle flip built, a set of 56" springs in the rear, and the 14FF rear end in this weekend. Here is a pic with some 305s (33s) on 16x8 rims on the rear.
