Alternator location ?
My alternator was on the driver side of the engine (72 350). I'm noticing several pics of other members trucks with same year/motor have it on the passenger side. What the difference and why? I'm guessing it might be becasue of having factory A/C?

Re: Alternator location ?
All 67-72's had the alternator on the driver side. The ones that you see on the passenger side are most likely using 73 and up brackets on the front of their engine.

Yes, and yes.
Also, I moved mine over because I really didn't like the banana alt bracket. I could never get it tight enough. |

Re: Alternator location ?
Just insert a large screwdriver between the bottom of the alt and the bracket and lift up. You can get your belt tighter than you would ever want.

From what I am reading....most people recommend swapping sides with the Alt? Are the aftermarket brackets interchangable right to left side or are they side specific? |

Re: Alternator location ?
I thought mine was on the dirver side because I had this awful JC Penny A/C system installed. The compressor was mounted on the passenger side. I moved it once I got the A/C crap out of there.

Re: Alternator location ?
As far as I know, there are NO universal brackets that fit both sides

Re: Alternator location ?
I used an alan grove alternator bracket because with a 1966 283, it has no mounting holes in the head. It has worked very well so far. Just another option.
