How am I going to do this?
I have a Alpine CD player that I want to put in my truck. I don't want to cut the dash all apart to put a stereo in, so I was thinking I could mount it under the dash like a CB radio. But I have one big problem, the radio has all the vent holes in the back part. If I mount it under the dash, that would be a good chance to get some water in it.
So my question is, are there any plastic, metal, or fiberglass boxes out there that will keep the water out? Not completely waterproof, but something to just cover the holes up, or will I have to make something? There are those plastic waterproof enclosures/boxes for boats, but I don't need anything that bulky. The players fits good right where I want it, my knee doesn't rub on it, and I can change the station quick when Pink Floyd or Elton John come on, but can crank it up just as quick when theres some AC/DC or Skynyrd playing. Any and all input would be helpful. Jake |

Re: How am I going to do this?
I'm sure that was a typo & you meant to say you would turn it UP when Pink Floyd comes on.

Re: How am I going to do this?
you dont want to cover you stereo with any type of sealed box. yes water will kill a stereo but like the other quote were will the water come from. unless you are planning on pooring a drink down the front of it i think you will be ok.. as far as covers or holders for under the dash i would check radio shack they use to carry this sort of thing and were ferly reasonable. the one thing you should remember is if you close that stereo up even a little it will add heat to your unit. and heat is probably the number one killer of most car stereos.. thats why most of your big car amps have internal fans and the whole outside of the amp is a jiant heat sink.. anyway enough rambling just get a good mount and have fun...

Re: How am I going to do this?
Well usually whenever I get in the truck, my shoes are all covered in something wet and nasty, and it would probably fling up into the stereo. Thats was my main concern. I was thinking I could mount the radio to the dash, and take a little piece of tin and bend it to fit around the bottom of the radio. Then I could leave the top side (facing the dash) open so the stereo can vent. I don't want a sealed box because, yes, that will kill my radio. I just kind of wanted a shield over the bottom of the radio to keep crap out. I should have been more informative in my first post.
And no, that wasn't a typo about Pink Floyd. |

I would cut the back of that out where the fins are on your stereo. If you are using an external amplifer then your heat will be lower as well.
