any ideas about getting a 1 ton from Madison IN to Southern Pines NC
A board member is selling exactly what i have been looking for the last couple of years. A cheap wrecker .
My burb is really tired and wouldn't pull the wrecker on my trailer back home. It doesn't run. It show 580 miles , if I buy it how do I get it home. Thanks, Steve |

One of the members, Crews I think, use to do something like that. Not sure if he still does runs on the side or not.
Not sure what shippers would charge, or if it would be worth to rent something to tow it back or not.

Re: any ideas about getting a 1 ton from Madison IN to Southern Pines NC
It`s a dilema. With it being a dual wheel heavier vehicle,I`d rent a Uhaul 1t van and dolly.I have a frame to pick-up and haul.I`m renting a pickup from Enterprise for $80 per day.I think it`s just under $400 a week. There`s no hitch, but I`m going to get naughty and pop the plastic off the hitch-ball holes, bolt a ball on,then snap the plastic back in before returning the truck. It`s a risk,I know.Uhaul would cost more and you have to get to where the vehicle is,too(fly, rent car,bus,train...)
Transporters will balk at the 1t thing and it`s not running.Maybe Rent-A-Wreck would have a truck or van to tow with.

Check with Junkyard John. He might know someone in the business as he has moved lots of vehicles.

Re: any ideas about getting a 1 ton from Madison IN to Southern Pines NC
I wouldn't run that on a dolly. It's been sitting way to long and the weight, too heavy. I towed a 72 burb complete from Tuscon to NC. It was ok but with the dual wheels , weight etc . It was a thought, working on trying to beg, borrow rent or Steal? A ton with a real hitch, bumper hitch wouldn't do it. My trailer no problem ..........
Thanks, Steve |

Re: any ideas about getting a 1 ton from Madison IN to Southern Pines NC
How close is Southern Pines to Bristol, TN Silver? I am going to be heading to Hurst, IL, due west of Evansville, I will hauling my 71 C-10 to trade on a Jeep Cherokee (I know I know). If I had a longer trailer then I would be glad to haul the truck back for ya for help on the fuel. I will be towing with a 1 ton Dodge dually. If you have access to a 5th wheel that would be long enough for both then we would be good.
