Frustrated!!

Well, after almost two months I had a day to work on my truck. If you have seen my previos post you know my problem with the rear bearing and race. Anyways, I found out in a very hard way that 3 out of 4 parts that Napa guy gave me were wrong . being a first timer I took his advise and took the race that was slightly wider than my original. I found that mistake after I packed the bearing and tapped the race in. It didn't clear the groove that the snap ring was suppose to go. in to it. After posting here and taking the hubs to a shop I ended up disassemble the hub and take the race back to the same napa. The guy looked at them and said "well I don't have anything else!" therefore I returned them. Later on after going to God knows how many store and dealer, I started to debate to use my old races then I decided to go to another napa just for the heck of it. The guy looked at my bearings and his computer then went back and after less than a minute came back with two races identical to my original!. I couldn't believe it!. I came back home packed the bearing and then the races wnet in just with a little tap, snap ring snap in place with almost with no effort . Now, I instal the outer race and bearing and seal. I put the disc (concverting to disc) and hammered the studs in, lifted the hole thing up to put it over the axel. It DID not go in! . The outer bearing inner ring is slightly smaller!!! I took the bearing from the other side and compare to the old one , they look the same but it seemed that the inner ring is slightly smaller. Took that bearing with the original to the second napa which found the races, and the guy just by looking at it said they are different!!!. He looked up his books and found a number but he didn't have in stock until Monday. Oh boy, Now I have to disassemble everything, do nothing until monday and drink beer to forget my wasted day
I just needed to went, Thanks for listening

Re: Frustrated!!

Sometimes life is frustrating. On the plus side, you found a good parts man and can at least get the parts. After several months a few days more will seem like nothing.

Re: Frustrated!!

It goes that way some times, I just spent the last 2 1/2 days redoing the engine and front wiring harnesss on our 70. Takes a lot longer than you think some times. Went to put in the headlight buckets and got them switched left to right, could not figure out why the lights would not go in. Got that fixed and then put the rings on, forgot about the notch for the springs, took that all apart again, lost the screws three times and had to hunt all over. Took about 2 hours to put in headlights !!! WTF??. Went to put in the drive shaft, got it all in place ready to tighten the u bolts and figured out that a needle had dropped. Take it back out again and fix the needle, and of course tranny fluild had to spill on the garage floor !!! Yesterday I tried to install a new taillight bezel and bent the sh1t out of it, thin repro crap !, now I have to order 2 more, because the other side was damaged in the package, another $25 bucks down the tube. I have many more examples but I am going to quit here before I get depressed !!! Sometmes it just goes slow and it is only a mistake if you leave it unfixed or half-azzed.

Good thing tommorow is Monday - I'd quit my job, but I need the rest !!!!
