Any thoughts on buying Edelbrock?
Thinking of buying a new Edelbrock performer 2101 intake and Performer carb 1406.
I have a new GM universal crate motor 10067353 - wasted way too much time and money with the new Holley spreadbore carb and using the original intake mani setup - cant get it properly tuned by anyone, even the old timer racers in CA and TX. #1406, 600 cfm, square-flange, electric choke (non-EGR) CALIBRATED FOR FUEL ECONOMY Designed for small-block and small displacement big-block engines, these carbs are recommended only for stock to Performer level applications. Match with an Edelbrock Performer or Performer EPS manifold and other brands of similar design. Calibrated 2% leaner than #1405. Includes both timed and full vacuum ports for ignition advance. Comes with: Metering Jets – Primary .098, Secondary .095; Metering Rods – .075 x .047; Step-Up Spring – yellow (4" Hg). Use our Carb Stud Kits #8008 or #8024 if needed

im using the ELDELBROCK 750cfm economy series. (not theres an oxymoron)
i used to be a big holley fan till i bought a CARTER AFB. never had to tune it for my stock 350. i have the 750 on my 402 and it doesnt miss a beat. just tuned the idle mixture screws and drive it. From what I know, Edelbrock carbs are way harder to tune right than Holleys. Maybe your Holley needs a rebuild, or maybe they threw something together wrong in the factory.
I've got no experience with Edelbrock, but I've had a few Holley square bores with no problems, and, of course, a billion Rochesters with nothing but problems. Edit: Of course, I could be wrong. :P

Nothing but good luck for me on using them,I have a 1405 on a stout 327 with a Performer intake and a 1406 on same manifold on a 350.I sold all my Holleys

I have a 1406 on my pickup with a 66 283 power pack motor. It has never skipped a beat. It was out of the truck in my garage for 6 months, and started back up and has been flawless. I used to love Holley, even with all of the tinkering sometimes required. I like the Edelbrock much better. Welcome to the site!! I recognize you from the Impala SS board!!

I would highly reconmend them. I only use edelbrock for my personal stuff. They are great for daily drivers.

Edelbrock and Carter are both made by Weber and are the best IMO for ease of use and daily driving. Very easy to adjust and run with no issues. I have a Carter AFB on my truck now and have had several Carter/Edelbrocks on past setups without any issues.
I've had one Holley and didn't care for it. I helped a friend with his Deamon carb and we still can get it to run right. |

A rule of thumb is edelbrock is great for economy and everyday use and holley is the "get gas in me before this big cam shuts me off". I've had the 1405, 1406, and the 1407 along with the carter afb on many different and havent had any problems. Re jetting them is even more fun! Good luck!

I'll have to take that all into consideration when I build up the 454 for my truck. I've been eyeing a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads for it, and figured I'd have to go with their intake, too, to keep things matched up.
Learn something new every day. And I'm not even the guy who started this thread. Thanks.

THANKS! I have spent a lot of time and money with Holley and plenty of rejetting! I think I am sold on Mr Vic Edelbrock Jr. My local hotrodder guy told me to go with a Holley (different carb than the money pit I have now), but I think its cause he has played with them for years.
If I dont find a good price and availability around San Antonio, then I will order parts thru Pace, Summit or Scoggin. Right now my truck wont start (seems fuel related - maybe my $12 AC Delco fuel pump went out again?) so I towed it off the street with a tow strap off my Escalade. I'll hook my spark checker up first. Maybe I'll look at the Edelbrock fuel pump? I wonder if my original style fuel line matches up to this kind of carb I would buy or I gotta buy some adapter peices?: Info on the $80 pump: Designed to match Performer Series carburetors, Edelbrock's High-Performance Street Fuel Pumps have 6 valves and a flow capacity of 110 gallons per hour. The unique valve design improves flow quantity and quality, and will support engines up to 550 hp. High-volume, 3/8" NPT inlet and outlet surpasses the capacity of conventional models. Produces 6 psi which is correct fuel pressure for street.

Mr Centsless, Your name is quite familiar. I matched our signatures (vehicles) up & I think we both pay too much for car insurance (plus we have a 4Runner 4WD, but I swear it was my wife's idea)! BTW - not sure if you went, but I barely missed ImpalaFest this year.
I guess I am mixed up as I thought I was part of this 67-72 fourm before and was told I didnt exist, so I registered. I guess it was another one like this (but not chevytalk or myoldtruck) Contact me direct about this disc brake club? if you are really tight you can have my old 2101, just need a home and a good cleaning, pay the ride and its yours.
the only reason i took it off was i was in a ****ty spot and didnt have the time to clean it right for replacement so i bought a new one, i literaly HAD to change intakes in the parking lot of autozone. |

I have had and used several edelbrock Carbs. You couldn't give me one. I might use one for a boat anchor. Thats my opinion. There intakes are fine but carbs are junk. I am not the only one that thinks this way. Several of my friends have had nothing but bad luck out of them. Constantly overloading. They all have dead spots. And that is brand new out of the box. They may work fine for a mild built (stock) motor. But when your trying to get tenths of seconds knocked off. Demon or Holley is the way to go for carbs. IMO.

I got an edelbrock got one problem with it and that is it outlasted 1 engine.Just go to an autopart store and look what they have on their shelfs a whole lot of holley kits and one edelbrock kit with dust on it.

Running a Performer and Carter AFB on my BB, still have the Edelbrock, only difference I can see ( actually feel) is the AFB has a little more punch on acceleration. That could be just me or I did a better job of setting up the AFB. Had to replace the accelerator pump on the AFB and it looks identical to the Edelbrock. Would not hesitate to buy either one again.
