Hood Issues

I thought that the problem in the picture was caused by a bad hood lever or spring so I repleced it with a new one and I have the same problem. Anyone know how I can fix it? Pic says it all.. Ignore that paint job that one is down the road a ways LOL

Looks like its time for new hood hinges. I think at the pivot points they elongate or something along those lines.

mounts too high, loosen bolts, lower, re torque. call it good. dont go and buy new stuff. like smart one up there ^^^

Well I had to buy a new set because mine were wore out like i stated. I would definatly try your way first. Always nice to save some cash.

Before you go buying new hinges etc. do this simple adjustment-----then let us know how well it works.
REAR HOOD HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ---by Huck!
1- Loosen the 6 (3 on each side) hinge to fender bolts (9/16ths socket).
2- With the hood open---push it up further till you feel some resistance like it is as far as it should go with no extra stress.
3- Now with the 6 bolts just a little snug---push the front of the hood up a bit more to pre-load the springs---and with it held up like this---/---tighten the six hinge bolts.
4- BEFORE CLOSING THE HOOD, CAREFULLY CHECK FOR ALIGNMENT OF THE HOOD TO THE FIREWALL COWL--THIS SOMETIMES CASUES A BIND SO CHECK IT OUT FIRST.
5- Assuming the hood is now coming down in the rear like you want, adjust the hood front to rear using the 4 bolts (2 on each side) that mount the hood to the hinges 'IF NECESSARY'.
6- You may need to tweek the hood hinge adjustment a bit but in just about every case I've seen, this adjustment process fixes the problem without having to buy new hinges. If the hinges are worn real bad, then you will need new ones but----just make sure the old ones are well lubricated at there multiple pivot points and you may be home free!!!! Let us know---Huck

yeah try what he said and while your at it spray the crap out of the pivot points with your favorite lubricant/ and spray latch too and throttle linkage and heater control cable and&&&&&&&&&

DO THIS!!!
My favorite is Tri-Flow. I did this a couple of weeks ago and it seems to have remedied my problem - along with my hood getting harder to open. And I know that my hinges are wore - they have visible slop in them. But, some good ole lubin' can go a long ways I suppose.

I was just checkin things out and relized I found an answer to a problem I was having but hadn't taken the time to fix. Went out to my garage and fixed my hood. Way cool... Thanx guys!

Huck I did what you said there and got almost all of it out. Im happy where it is now. Could be that I warped the hood when we dropped it on its side when we did the engine swap.

i dont mean to steal the thread in anyway but anybody know how to fix it if the hood doesnt pop up when you lift the lever is it the hinges or something else and i should probly mention i did take the hood off and the hinges also it used to do it before i took it off but not now

New rubber bumpers on the fenders will make the hood pop up when you open it, be aware that many aftermarket side bumpers are way too thick. I have found the the ones from LMC fit great, they are the right size but cost 3 dollars each, the cheap ones that don't fit are 4 dollars for a set.

Also, if you get an aftermarket cowl seal it will hold the back hood up, it has too much of an "L" shape and will not fold down, you can cut it down too clear or you can still get the correct new one from GM for not much more money and it will fold down when the hood shuts.

Green Machine, I think you are right about the cowl seal. I replaced mine and it is holding the back of the hood up even after I did the hinge adjustments that Huck suggested. Think I will take it off and do some trimming.

Depending on how much upward pressure you apply to pre load the hinge springs, you can usually crush even the newest cowl to hood seal with no difficulty. Just take your time and it should come out fine. (:>)
