I'm new here, and I need some help! You see...

...everytime I do something to my rustbucket I seem to mess something else up. But before I get into that, here is the post I put on the "Welcome" forum introducing myself. Now back to the issues

First, I put a new steering wheel on my bucket. I tightened it down too far, but I finally got it right - with one issue...the horn ALWAYS blows. So I disconnected it and straight wired a horn. Now my battery is dying. (My signal lights no longer cancel either, but I guess I have to live with that) Could it be that there is current being drawn from inside that d@mn steering wheel somewhere?

Also, I put in a brand new used bench seat from the junkyard in my bucket. After installing, the gas gauge stopped working. When I turn the key, it goes all the way past the "F." What in the he!! could that be? What should I check?

I'm sure there is more, but I'll stick to that for right now.... Help HELP!! Thanks in advance!

First of all Welcome to the board.
1. Did you put the canceling cam (round plastic piece with a couple little legs on it) back in and in the right direction?
2. If the wire for the horn is still in the column and touching metal that will definatey cause a drain.
3.When you put the new seat in you could have unplugged the wire to the sending unit on the tank.
Good luck and post your problems, you will get good advice from people on this sight.

Something else you might want to check is when you bolted down your seat if you dident smash the fuel wire down when tightening up your seat...

Had basically th same problem ie., battery drainin' because of wire touchin' metal after removal of steering wheel. As far as the gas gauge, check wirin' on tank, could have pulled it loose or cut into wires while yankin' seat out...

the fuel gage wire should run under the driver side door threshold molding. most are under the mat or carpet. Could have as mentioned earlier in this thread. the wire could be pinched. it is tan in color.......my.02%
