Tach dash question????
How can you tell if a tach dash came out of a c10, c20, c30, c40, etc.(small truck or big truck) Also is there a way to tell it it is a 6 cylinder or a 8 cylinder tach. Any or all info reguarding this would be great.
Thanks Jason |

Re: Tach dash question????
There is a sticker or stamping on the tach that says 6 or 8. I don't think you can tell what it's out of though.

Re: Tach dash question????
There are a few mechanical tachs out there too so watch for that.

Re: Tach dash question????
I had a 6 cyl tach and it said nothing on the back of it. Every 8 cyl tach I've seen has had "8 cyl" stamped on the back of it. The bigger truck's dash plastic is different. Where the cut out in the plastic is for the steering column to pass through, it's not cut up as high like it is on 10-30 series. There was one on ebay yesterday and you could clearly see the dash plastic wasn't cut as high as our trucks. There's a line where you could cut it out so it would be easy to do. As far as the tachs themselves, I'm not aware of any differences between the 40+ series and the 10-30 series.

Re: Tach dash question????
Some of the large truck tachs had a different rpm scale, I think they only went to 4500, and more often than not the complete assys came with vacuum guages or pressure guages

Re: Tach dash question????
Another good indicator of a big truck dash is the extra throttle hole on the right of the bezel, but the main one is the cutout for the column.

Re: Tach dash question????
The manual throttle was available on 10 - 30 series trucks as well.
