solid sheet of aluminum for a tonneau cover
Has anyone seen or have tried making their tonneau cover out of solid sheet of aluminum? of course braced from underneath. In all my searches i haven't found the cover that i would want. I dont like the kind that covers the bed side rails. i want it flush with the inside of the bed rail seperated by just rubber insulator. Hinged and braced underneath and electric or pneumatically opened and closed. Do we have to make this or is it commercially available?
Gaylord has something close but its also 2,000

The closest thing I know of is the Gem Top GT Classic. It does rest on the top of the rails to keep water out though. It has a sheetmetal skin, but still weighs less than a fiberglass cover.

Re: solid sheet of aluminum for a tonneau cover
it's a cool idea. i could totally see making a two peice one in raw polished aluminum with roller beads at 2in intervals length wise. it would totally rock!
