Water leaks
I've resealed my drip rail and I've seam sealed all my new repairs (kick panel, floor patch and rockers yet today I still found a little bit of water in my footwells (the carpet is out at the moment.) Where else is this likely to be getting in? Are there any common problem areas, i guess it could be the screen rubber leaking, the firewall seems solid but are there any areas under the cowl likely to leak? Obviously number one plan is to get her under some cover but I do want to sort these leaks before I fit my new carpet and it rains a lot here!

Usually you can look up from under the dash on a sunny day and look for any holes that let light in. I would check the windshield gasket also.

so would it be worth getting the windshield pulled and refitted with a new rubber? Obviously not quite so easy this side of the atlantic as I need to make sure I can source a new gasket before I get it done.

Most common leak area is the windshield between the metal and the rubber. It can be a SOB to get tight. Also check the cowl area ---as that can rust through and let water in ---kind of hard area to see unless you go under the dash upside down with rain or a hose spraying on the truck. These little babies do tend to need diapers~~~~.

Try a one person with a large flashlight (or torch as you say) under the dash at night and you on the outside looking around the firewall and seams. Not as messy as using a water hose. Is the leaks on both sides or just one? What about the kick-panel vent rubber seals, are they in good shape?

I say windshield gasket too ... lots of rusted foot wells/kick panels out there due to this.

Kick panel vent seals might an issue as the previous owner ran the speaker cables into the doors by just passing them through the vents and drilling a hole in the end of the vent housing. What would be the best way to reroute the wires so the door shuts properly? Also the antenna cable is drilled through the side of the firewall under the cowl, it has some silicone around it but maybe not enough (but thats only on one side and it leaks on both)
Both kick panels were rusty, the worst has now been replaced and the other side will get done probably next year as its the better side, but I want to stop this water before I put my nice red carpet down. Where can I buy a new windshield rubber from? (i'm betting my local windshield shop won't have one in stock!)

My truck had a leak on the passenger side... I found out what it was when I took my cowl off... the water was coming in from an old antenna hole. Plugged it up with sealant.... all is good now.

I pumped in flowable silicon between the glass and the seal were it was leaking solved my problem. If you do have them change it make the use some kind of sealant most just use the rubber and I have found it will still leak alot of the time.

Mine used to leak through the rain gutter above the windshield, on both sides where the seam was (the sealant was pretty much gone) it would run down the winshield post and down the kickpanels.
I used to get water on my dash then it would drip through the drain holes, that came from the windshield gasket. |

LOL, yeah it does get a bit damp here at times. Some really good suggestions here and lots to check. I have used a product called seek and seal that was a very thin flowable sealant that you squirt under windshield seals etc and it then flows out and sets with good results in the past. I'll have to see if they still make it.

It seems that sadly they don't make it anymore, probably down to some lunatic EU law outlawing one of the ingredients, so much stuff has gone this way over here due to new legislation.

I just remembered mine used to leak through the ridge on the firewall, where the wiring harness is.
Is it possible for the water to be going down in the cowl and backing up down below the vents (drain holes clogged up)? The PO of my truck stuck a big hunk of foam in there for some reason and of course it rusted out. |

I vacuumed the vents and cowl area out before reassembly, I'll have a look for the drain holes. Where are they located?
