Re: VIN # locations

stamped of the top of the DS frame rail near the steering gearbox is one for sure and I thin they are stamped again in both rails under the cab, not totally sure on that one though

Re: VIN # locations

67 GMC's had a small tag on the drivers rear jam, about 1.5 ft up from the rocker.

Re: VIN # locations

On my 67 Chevy K20 it's on the outboard side of the frame about 12in behind the steering gearbox. (green circle) I'll look at my 67 GMC's tomorrow and repost.

Re: VIN # locations

Anybody have any pics of the door jamb vin tags. Were they just stamped, or were the numbers/letters highlighted with any paint? Mine were completely painted over in a terrible shade of a metallic blue. I am stripping the paint now, but do they need some kind of repaint.

Thanks
Jason

Re: VIN # locations

I want to say that the tags were painted and stamped. I'm not at home right now to look at mine but I'll do that and let you know.

One of mine had been painted and I was able to clean it up pretty good with that "goop off" stuff. I was worried it would take off the original colored writing that is not stamped in but it worked out pretty good.
I guess it depends on the year as to if it has colored writing though. My 72 had the vin and a couple of other things embossed with the rest all in blue writing. My 70 has no color with everything on the plate embossed

Re: VIN # locations

The original ones where chrome metal, at least the 67-69? ones I have seen. the 70-72, the big vin plates I think are stainless or aluminum. They use some sort of ink for info and lettering except the vin, which is just stamped on it. Sorry I forget which year went from the small vin plate to the big plate.

Re: VIN # locations

My 67 GMC had the small vin plate on the B pillar on the drivers side and no frame numbers on the frame.
