My 2 current projects

Hey guys, just thought I'd share a few pictures of my 2 current projects and I'll try to keep them coming through the build up.
The first one is my 70 2wd short bed. It is a factory 396/402-350hp, Turbo 400, bucket seat truck. Before the teardown I acctually drove this truck from my home in Harrisonburg VA to the Turkey Run in Daytona Beach in 2003 and to Ocean City Maryland in May of 2005 without a sinlge problem.
I have installed 4 wheel disc brakes, 2 1/2" drop spindles, 3 1/2" drop coilovers in the rear, adjustable track bar with poly trainling arm bushings, 1 1/4" front sway bar, 1 1/8" rear sway bar, 17" chrme rally's from Wheel Vintiques, and a set of 275/55/17 Bridgestones. I also Installed an updated transmission corssmember and put 4" sleeves through the trailing arm crossmember for exhaust clearence. It has Dynomax headers with dual 3" pipies and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers that turn down right behind the cab.
As far as the engine goes I installed an set of MSD plug wires and HEI upgrade kit with a Holley 750 double pumper and an Optima battery. I also installed a Flow Cooler high volume water pump and twin electric fans to help keep it cool.
In the interior I installed a mahogany steering wheel and a factory fit stero for Custom Autosound with kenwood in dash replacement speakers.
The tear down started when I let the truck sit for about two months and when I pulled into the shop it was leaking oil like crazy. So I put it on the lift to check it out and also found a leaking freeze plug. Im sure you guys know about one behind the motor mount that is notorious for collecting dirt and rusting over time. The engine hadn't been out of the truck since I owned it so I pulled it to seal it, clean it, and repaint it. Didn't want to do anything else with the engine at this time, it runs way too good and don't want to mees with it.
When I pulled the engine I decided to clean up under the hood, which lead to painting the whole truck, to moving the fuel tank, to Installing A/C form rainbowproductsonline.com, and it kept snowballing.
Since the 70 will take a little time and a lot of money I picked up thie 6 cylinder equipped 67 to curb my appetite for classic trucks and to relive me of the gas mileage I get with my 89 Suburban daily driver.
My plans for the 67 include shortening the frame and installing 93 stepside bed with rollpan and shaved steps, floor shift, flat black paint with red steel wheels and wide whites. Im trying to keep the 67 project quick and low buck since I have th majority of the parts sitting around.

I think I know you! Did you sale me the Ocre/White '71 SWB 4X4 w/a 396 in it a couple years ago? The house, Garage, and truck look real familiar. If it is you, how is your dads '55 Chevy coming along?

Hey Bishops, yeah its me Travis, small world . Dad's 55 is coming along slowly. I started working in the shop full tme in March and he soon followed in April. We spend so much time working on everyone else's toys we don't have much time to play with our own. I still have this picture on my compter desktop. My wife still like the one I sold you better than my green one .You still outta the country?

Yea, I'll be over here until July 2009. I really miss my trucks. The one I bought from you is sitting at a friends house in Moneta, Va., the '68 4X4 I bought right before I left is sitting at my mom's house in Manassas and my '71 Project Truck is in storage. I'm glad to hear things are working out for you and your dad in the garage. I would have to say that I would rather do that than be a sheriff. The 396 that was in the SWB had 7 burnt valves, I sold that to a friend that rebuilt it and put it in a '66 Pontiac Grand Perrisienne, (Canadian Grand Prix) it is a beautiful car. I put the 350 H.O. out of my project truck into the SWB. She gets right down the road. The '68 4X4 I bought right before I moved has a wore out 327 that burns and blows oil and smokes like a steam engine and has no ass what so ever but it is a very solid truck that spent all but the last 2 years in Southern California. I bought it off of ebay from a guy in Nebraska. I need to put a new motor in it, I'm going to go with the 350 H.O. like I put in the shortbed since I have had good luck with it. Think about this, what would you guys charge me to change the motor, add power steering, power brakes, headers and exhaust, and cleanup and paint the engine compartment? You would not have to rush on it as I will be here awhile. Well it's 6:30 am here (12:30 am your time) I need to get to work. Here are some pics for ya:

No, too many projects too little time I sold completed chassis and primered cab with body work completed for $2400. Plus I few in some of the random parts from it that I didnt have much use for. He came up from NC to pick it up. Here's a pick of it the day he picked it up.

Yeah but i gave him a buch of old parts like a good hood, a pair of doors and fender that needed work, steering column wiring harness and guages glovebox door and such. Nothing really worth much. I had $1200 worth of parts in the chassis and a ton of time in the body work on the cab. I figured a good cab that had complete body work and was ready for paint was worth $1200.

I finally got started on my 67 this weekend. I took out the floor mat to check floor condition. Then I shortened the frame. I acctually prefer this method of frame shortening http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624 but I did not want to remove the cab from the frame so I went with a method I saw used in Classic Trucks. I simply cut the frame, checked all measurements, welded it together and boxed it in. When I was done I Cut the two piece drive shaft and rewelded into a new one piece just to move it around the yard. I am NOT going to drive on the highway like this . Although the driveshaft did stand up to me popping the clutch and smoking the tires down the driveway . While I had the crossmember out I cut holes and welded in 4" pipe sleeves for exhaust to pass through.

jUST TO ASK A STRANGE ? WHAT DID THE SPROTS PACKAGE ALL HAVE IN ITAND I'VE ONLY SEEN ONE IN MY LIFE UP IN BIG BEAR CALIF IT WAS A 1968 SHORTBED WITH THE TOOL BOX ON THE SIDE OF THE PASSANGER SIDE IS THAT PART OF THE SPROTS PACKAGE THAT GM OFFERED LET ME KNOW

1low, I cut 8 inches off the rear of the frame and 12 inches out directly behind the cab, I then moved the crossmember forward 12 inches.

stsalvage, here is a picture of the options list from the glove box door of the 70. It has "custom sport truck" listed but I don't know exactly what all that included. The yellow 4x4 above that I sold to Bishops also has it listed on the options list. I'm sure someone on here knows

I decided cut down the long bed instead of using the 93 stepside bed. I cut 12 inches out of the front and 8 out of the rear. Here it is cut down waiting to get the ends welded back on. I worked on that some this past weekend and I hope to finish it up this weekend. I'll get some pictures posted of it welded back up.
