Who's using the Oldsmobile engine???

I will be prepping the 69 Rocket 350 the next few months. This motor was hard to get as it was. I've heard some people doing the 455 though. But If I do the 350 right, I should get 370 pony's. But that's only after I use the Edlebrock intake, cam and lifter kit. Not to mention the headers. But I know I'm not the only one doing the olds engine swap.

I would think you'd want the 455 , huge torque . A lot of the guys with one tons use it , just my .02 .

455s were all over the salvage yards back in the day, they literally went for nothing. Thats why you see so many old truck with them.

The olds rocket 350's were a super engine--the olds cutlass was a screamer with it. You may want to think it through as some of the aftermarket upgrades may be a pain to find ie headers that will fit your application.

Re: Who's using the Oldsmobile engine???

I did 3-4 B-O-P 455 swaps back in the day.I had the donor and the wrecker they were going into and it was a super easy swap. All factory parts. The trucks were wreckers for a wrecking yard and we swapped motor and tranny combo's straight up.Tons of torque and low cost since the yard had the B-O-P's from salvage vehicles.I don't think the 350 is much different as far as mechanicals go but there doesn't seem to be much aftermarket for them.I doubt you will get 370 with just a cam and intake, but that's JMHO.

Re: Who's using the Oldsmobile engine???

The 455's do put out great power but don't discount the 350. I put a 71 350 into my old 56 Ford truck and a Buick 350 into another 56. My salvage yard Olds only had 751 miles on it. Engine and trans into the truck with a 3.73 rear and it was a blast to drive. I put headers on it, had to modify 455 headers to fit, and the biggest hp pickup I found with it was recurving the dist and rejetting the carb. It pulled great. Never leaked oil either.

Re: Who's using the Oldsmobile engine???

i always liked the buick 455 engines they had huge amounts of torque, i've never ran the olds or pontiac 455 but i assume they are torque monsters also, what i've seen ppl doin on here lately is the caddy 500 swap which from what i've seen i'm very impressed with, the caddy engines aren't so easy to find around here they've pretty much done away with all the old salvage yards around here
