Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

Is either Chevy or GMC called a longhorn? Do the longhorns have longer beds?? Or is it just a badge/ package???
I am still alittle confused about these trucks. So somebody enlighten me.

from what i hear, its a longer bed by like 6 inches..(dont quote me on exacts), and i believe stiffer rear suspension. i think the GMC is called camper special. this is what ive learned just by browsing the board, so someone correct me if im wrong.

A Custom Camper does not mean it's a Longhorn. I've got a 72 GMC "custom camper" but it's not a Longhorn; when I was a kid my Dad bought a brand new '69 Chevy C30 Longhorn. It had an 6" longer bed (8.5' rather than 8') and 6" longer wheelbase as well. they came in C20 (3/4 ton) as well as the C30 (1 ton). My dad's had the 396, factory air, factory tach, & CST package and he kicked himself for YEARS for ever selling it!

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

Anybody ever seen a '68 GMC " Longhorn"? I've got a 1968 copy of the Kelly Blue Book and it lists the 8 1/2 bed,133 wb Chevy, but NOT the GMC version. The only 133 wb GMC listed was the 9ft bed 1-ton.

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

Search for "longhornman" in members. In his sig there is a link to his longhorn webpage. I think the biggest difference is a extra foot on the bed. I bet he will pop in and tell you alll you need to know.

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

the chevy longhorn, and the sister truck, GMC Custom Camper, have 8 1/2 foot long beds, on a 133 inch wheel base, up from 127 inch on the normal long wheel base. They are built on the one ton frame, and only came in 3/4 ton and one ton designations, and only had leaf springs out back... no coils, ever.
Take a look at my site.

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

longhorns have an extra 6" in the front of the bed. they are all leaf spring, either 3/4 or 1 ton. the chevys were longhorns, and the gmcs were custom camper, i believe. they started in 68, on chevys anyway, and chevys have a longhorn badge on the box by the marker light. hope this helps

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

There were 2 GMC custom campers.
There was the option package, which was a sway bar, stiff springs, and HD shocks... then there was the 8.5 foot bed..aka longhorn.

I can't recall if GMC did it in 68, or if they waited till 69. It was a mid year intro for chevy begining in march, so I can see it go either way.

Re: Can somebody explain the difference of the longhorn!

Here is the correct (OOPS Model # not option) number for a GMC Longhorn
Notice the wheel base 133 and the model number

I'll be glad to hold it for ya , lol , that pass can't stay closed forever . I can't believe all the responses off of Craig's , it's better than Evilbay . Ofcourse it far from sold . Even had some Canadian interest . Did you happen to see the 50th shorty step ( was swb) on ebay last week ? Boise area , i was bidding till it took off , sold for $1403 in pieces , no drive train . Damn .
