Sad news
I finally got around to dismantling the 402 that I am putting in the ton project and did not like what I found. When I traded for this motor about 15 years ago (yes I know, that is a long time to get around to something) it was a running engine that had a couple of lobes down on the cam. My hopes were to cam it, maybe roll some bearings in, new gaskets and seals, a fresh coat of paint and install it. But nooooo, my philosophy has always been to expect the worst and hope for the best. Well I got the worst, well almost, crank is junk and cylinders measure in at 4.133-4.136. The good news is the heads will just require a fresh face on the valves and seats and will be good to go. So now i'm looking for a good crank, new bearings and a fresh set of pistons and rings. Good thing I set a little more $$$ aside.

I have the Cost more and takes longer syndrome also.Added to the fact that I'm married=no $$ and I don't know if my truck will ever get finished.

Re: Sad news
well its good you can set some extra money aside..i dont know what that means..never seen any of it either..could be why i always just worry about getting them running,,then just drive them...maybe when the youngest is gone,,(in 3 yrs) i can do a frame off,,but i would not have the patience to tear it down and wait that long to get it back to driveable shape..i would loose interest and sell it off...lol

Re: Sad news
Trust me, that thought has gone through my mind. I have a good 454 crank under wraps and since I will need to buy pistons anyway, hmm...... and no Corn, it didn't make me feel any better.
