T5 in one of our trucks?

A friend of mine purchased a 350 engine that came with a T5 tranny. Anyone put this setup in before? Do you know what length shaft to use? He has heard that you would you an A/T crossmember - anyone can comfirm? Also, he can't figure out something about the clutch piece that on a regular 3 speed sets in a slot on the frame and bolts to the engine - how would you do it with this setup?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: T5 in one of our trucks?

I've got the Camaro T-5 hooked up to my I6 and didn't use a rear mount although I plan on putting one on down the road. Even if you can somewhat use the AT crossmember, it'll still require mods to bolt it to the T-5. I'm just going to make a crossmember out of tube steel and build up the mount on that. I'm not sure what you mean by the 3 speed question.

Re: T5 in one of our trucks?

He is swapping out the 6 for an 8. And on his current 6 with a 3 speed, something on the tranny pivots off of a spot on the frame. And apparently part of that setup bolts to the engine, but he doesn't know where that same part on the T5 would bold to the V8.

Re: T5 in one of our trucks?

I think he's referring to the clutch linkage. My understanding is that they're totally different between the V8 and the I6. Regardless, they both bolt up to the engine and attach to the clutch fork. Nothing attaches to the T-5 itself except of course the driveshaft. The T-5 simply bolts on to the bellhousing using 4 bolt holes that need to be drilled out to 1/2".

Re: T5 in one of our trucks?

a T5 would not hold up with a v8 for very long, well for just driving along maybe it would but if he intends on performance a T5 is not something i would use, i have broke many t5's in my mustang gt, now if it is a stock engine and he isn't gonna drive it hard it might be ok, personally i'd rather run a muncie four speed or a new venture 5 speed trans, or if its in the budget a t56, but with a V8 before i'd run a t5 i'd go with an automatic thats just my 2 cents
