HEI/Ign Upgrades?? Coil??
Hello & Howdy All,
As usual I am looking for things to help the pick'em up truck. I have a stock HEI unit on a 350 w/ Edel intake & Quadjet(4bl) carb, 700r4,3.73 gears, lowered 4/6. I know that there are upgrade coils for the HEI and even new dist. but do I gain enough over stock? And which upgrades have all you out there liked best? Anyone run the MSD unit with timing control....sounds like something way fun In addition I am seriously thinking about the Holley Projection or something like that, maybe junkyard TBI/TPI...thoughts? I prefer buying new packages to piecing together junkyard leavings (maybe they are broken when I buy them). Thanks in advance for any and all help, 1 Leg Lance |

It's my understanding that for a daily driver, the stock HEI is more than enough and from what I hear on this board the TBI/TPI doesn't give you much if any in the way of fuel mileage either. I use the stock HEI and the Edelbrock 1406/performer manifold on my set up and have been very happy with the performance and the mileage it gives me. (my 2 cents)

Gordo has the same lines of thinking as I do on this subject.
If you have mega compression, or butt loads of N.O.S., then a hotter ignition won't do much for you. Dyno #'s don't lie, and all the lower end (read; less than $1000) only add a couple horses. |
