Need info on engine specs
Hey guys, i'm new to this and wanted to say hi. I recently bought a 69 chevy stepside shortbox with a "new" engine. The guy gave me the specs on the engine and i have no idea what kind of power or torque i'm looking at the specs go as this: new 350cid, 4bolt main, 10:1 Pistons, 64cc 1.94 heads, Screw in studs, .515 springs, 284/484 crane hydr. cam, edlebrook RPM alum intake, mallory uniltie electric distributor, holly 670 CFM carb, turbo 350 3000 stl converter, new headers and exhaust.
I hope someone can give me any idea what kind of engine i have here, power, torque estimates and whatever other knowledge you have about this engine. Thanks guys! Hopefully i'll get pics up soon! |

No help here either, vikingfan...sounds pretty swell though.
How do you like driving with that 3k RPM stall T/C ? I'm curious about those "loose" T/C's. Seems like they'd take a little getting used to. BTW...A big HOWDY from Wallburg, NC.

Thanks for the reply though...the truck runs real well with the 3k stall...i'm not sure if i can tell the difference between a 2k and a 3k, what would a "loose" t/c feel like? I'm still learing ALOT about this old truck, learning curve is slow but enjoyable.

Lets see how close I am before someone chimes in with a more accurate figure or if they have the desk top dyno. This sounds like a good combo so I would say that you are pushing 350 plus HP depending on what kind of heads they are. They aren't the later 71 + "smog" heads since they are 64CC heads, so they should be decent. It's hard to tell from combos like this on how the parts work together unless someone has actually dyno'd the combo, but the best estimate is the butt dyno and grin factor when you punch it.

Yea, with stock heads I would guess 350-375 horse. A 3000 stall converter is a little high for street driveing in a truck, I had a 2800stall in a camero, I liked it a lot, I tryed the same converter in my truck, I had a big block at the time and with the extra weight it would stall to at least 3200 just pulling away from stop lights.. that got old real fast.

Sounds like a pretty well matched motor. 3000RPM stall sounds like a lot but I doubt that motor has enough torque to make it static at 3000. I bet you'll actually stall somewhere closer to 2300RPM. I can see it needing the increased stall too because of that cam. That's a lot of duration for not so much lift. I bet it's lumpy sounding :-)
I would guess that motor(depending what has been done to the heads) would make somewhere around 350HP. Here is what a "similar" Comp Cam XE cam is making.... http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Dy...84H-10_001.asp I actually ran this cam for a while and I liked it. It has quite a bit more lift than your 284 cam thus the 390HP it made with a similar motor to yours. |
