Re: 12 bolt differences- car and truck
the 12 bolt car rear end is made thicker and stronger in just about all areas in the gear housing. the sizes of the caps are different. i am sure someone here thats a rearend specialist can point out all the little differences.
the car rearend was made to handle H.P. from the muscle cars. some had 400 hp and more stock. these old trucks were made for hauling and towing. thus no need for the improved housing.. if you look for after market high performance parts you will soon find that the listing for trucks are on the short side.. i hope someone will chime in here to add to the list.. |

Re: 12 bolt differences- car and truck
pretty much everything is different, however alot of people are quick to swap in a different rear cuz they built up the motor a little bit. i say keep it, you can buy better axles and carriers or a spool like i did and im running in the high 11's with a 4 speed and slicks. they will hold some decent power, especially on the street with radials.
