Power Steering from an 84 on a 68 chevy c10

I remember seing a thread a while back on using an 82 and up power steering gearbox to get get close ratio power steering in a 67-72 chevy. It said the steering gearbox would fit with the older pump as long as you used the pitman arm (or could be idler arm). Now the newer Chevy trucks (82 and up) went over to metric fittings on the power steering units and my 68 chevy power steering pump is standard. If anyone else has had this done, did you buys hoses from somewhere that were custom made? Also what is the exact size of the 84 chevy fittings? Can someone tell me of a place that can make customized power steering hoses like this or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I did this on both my trucks. One blew the lower seal, so I decided to upgrade. I liked it so much, when the other one went, I upgraded it too.

You will need the late model rag joint too. Use the late model pump and hose. If the pump will not fit your brackets, you can swap the o-ring style fitting into your pump.

What exactly is a "rag joint"? I'm having a mechanic put all this in for me, so I'm just gathering all the parts he will need.

How bout the 73 up boxes (earlier than 82). Do they offer any advantages over a stock 72 box? I thought they were a little quicker ratio as well.
