Re: Tell me what you think.

As you can see from the weeds growing up under it, it's sat for a while due to the enging dying and lack of funds. I've pulled the engine & tranny and rebuilt both. They're dropped back in, but haven't been able to bolt everything down and break it in yet (hopefully this weekend).

The body's in decent shape, just the usual suspect areas for rust, floorpans, rockers, etc., nothing that can't be fixed though.

Re: Tell me what you think.

I like it.If you want,I can get you the part# for factory bowtie center appliques that fit right in those caps. They`re actually from the dorky full wheelcovers from late-70s into the mid-80s.

Re: Tell me what you think.

That would be great special-K; I haven't gotten far enough in to the project to think about the wheels, but if you have the numbers handy, I would really appreciate the info.

Re: Tell me what you think.

VERY nice... is that a factory 396/auto/A.C./power brake truck? While you'll never find numbers... that's a tough bird to find if it's original.

Re: Tell me what you think.

Thanks Tim!

Longhorn,
I'm pretty sure it's the original motor, the VIN shows it came w/ a 396 and the block numbers show it was a '68 (not sure how to look it up and tell exactly).

I'm not sure about the A.C. though, it's got an underdash set-up on the passenger side that I've never seen before; I'll take some pics this weekend (trucks back home in 'Bama) and let all the experts here tell me what I've got.

Re: Tell me what you think.

The VIN says big block? The VIN can only tell you v-8 or inline 6. The SPID label (option sheet) would tell you if it is a factory big block truck. (again, if it does say so, then SWEEEET!)
your A/C sounds like a dealer installed unit, or something sold through sears, JC pennys or montgomory ward back in the day. Got any photos of the inside?
Also, is there something laying in the bed, or do you have a chrome/stainless floor in the bed?

Very nice truck. I like the color, and the big block is always a bonus.

Re: Tell me what you think.

You have a he!! of a Stepside there.
About those center inserts.I`m thinking I may have the wrong ones here.I got some a while ago for 6-lug rallyes on a`70 2wd I had.I have this set, too.I may have these because they were too small, like the 5-lug rallye inserts. These measure 2 1/2",so check that area on the 6-lug cap. Both types look the same:black w/a silver circle at the outer diameter and around the gold bowtie.Yes,that`s the GM# for these.I don`t have a camera. My wife stole it at Christmas.

Re: Tell me what you think.

Longhorn, guess I showed my lack of knowledge about the technical aspects of these trucks, I've just always driven them. I was going by what the guy at the machine shop told me he told me he looked up some numbers, I assumed he meant VIN. I'll get every number I can find on it this weekend and go from there.

As far as what's in the bed, it has a wood bed with chrome strips, I don't know if that's what's reflecting or not. As you can tell by looking at the green grass, this pic was taken last summer and my memory's not that good.

Tim, I'll measure the center inserts this weekend and take pictures.
