Need help with engine pulleys
Here are some pics of the PO's pulley setup. I have no clue what these went to. I only need pulleys for the alt and ps, as I'm removing the non-working a/c. As you can see in the one pic the ps pump is not lining up and is at an angle. You can see the PO's attempt to fix it with those spacers.
I need to know the correct setup (well, with the long water pump that is). Also I do not know if this is the correct fan, I think it may be off a newer vehicle. Thanks. |

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
the problem is that the pump is designed to be used with a short waterpump but you have a long waterpump, change the steering pump to a modern one and it should line up.

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
Should I just go back to a short water pump? What year ps pump would work?

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
you can go either way, newer steering pump or short water pump. you just need to now that ther not compatible with each other, short waterpump requires different pullys and different alt bracket.it looks like the easy thing is to get a modern [steering pump for long waterpump]pump cause you allready have long waterpump and correct alt bracket.

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
Most of the long pump P.S. pump brackets will bolt through this hole. Then there will be a bracket from rear of pump to exhaust manifold bolt. Similar to pic.

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
Where can I get new pulleys and the right brackets? I want this to be set up the right way (long water pump).
Thanks. |

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
Im not sure of all the years that will work, but mid to late seventies for sure. There are two types. some water pumps have a bored hole ,others have a threaded hole. My truck has a bored hole with a bolt that goes through it. The P.S. bracket is U shaped to fit the water pump boss and is threaded on the backside. The pully on the new pump should work.

Re: Need help with engine pulleys
I just installed a power steering pump on my 350 small block with the Long Water pump. I used the brackets from March Performance. The pulleys lined up perfect. Here's a link:
