The new motor for my project...

After finding out the motor for my truck was junk I had to find a replacement ... Found a complete motor in the local classifieds for $300... 350 4 bolt main , std. bore , freshened with flat tops , all new top end.... Comp Cams 280 H cam kit , hardened pushrods , roller tipped rockers sitting on 487 casting heads that were ported , chambers smoothed and opened up to 2.02/1.60 stainless valves ... the score of my life !!!! Tore it down to make sure everything was cool , then started putting it back together with a fresh paint job (was GM blue)..it's just about ready to go in.... gotta clean and paint engine compartment yet.... so here's a few pics...

I find motors around here on ebay dirt cheap due to the fact they are "pickup only" and most people either have no way to pick it up or are just too lazy to drive.

couple years ago i picked up 3 350 4bolts, complete for $300 total i had to drive 300miles roundtrip, and one ended up being siezed, but the other two were definately worth it.

Last summer i picked up the motor that's currently in my truck for $150, and picked up a new block the same day for $20.

Gotta love "pickup only"

Re: The new motor for my project...

I bought a complete Vortec 350 (roller cam and all) for the cost of the core charge ($150!) I also bought an ebay pick up only, one piece rear main 350 for $7!! I was in Phoenix anyways, so I bid and won!!

Re: The new motor for my project...

Nice score! Just to be sure, I'd pull the tin and check everything for clearances before firing it up. For that cheap, I wouldn't be surprised if he forgot the timing chain or something. Good work!

Re: The new motor for my project...

With deals like that thats why I wouldn't buy a crate or high dollar build motor. Gave $400 for a 350 bored 40, Crane cam, Weiland intake, Edelbrock carb and 194 heads. Over $ 1100 invested. Gotta look and you'll find em'
