Help with Wipers/stuck not working
Hey guys & gals, I need help from someone who knows what's behind the dash for a wiper relay/switch, my wipers decided to stop working & now their in the straight up position, the switch feels normal when I try all positions but nothing makes the wipers move. Before they stopped, they would not come on right away when I turned on the switch, but if I left the switch on, they would come on in about a minute by themselves. Now nothing.

Re: Help with Wipers/stuck not wqorking
sounds like the wiper motor took a dive. i had to replace mine couple of years ago. just have to take off the cowling, and lay on your back to look under the dash. should be power going to it (you can check to make sure the motor is getting power before just swapping it out) and a couple of washer lines. not much else too it. some people have a hard time getting the wiper arms off. (there is a release clip under the arm) but mine just came off with not problem.

Thanks uba, I'll check that out, I just didn't want to pull the dash of unless it was neccessary, so no relay to worry about then, just a fuse, a switch & a motor?

That's pretty much it. Make sure the fuse holder doesn't have rust on the contacts and try a new fuse in it even if it looks OK. Also check the wires to make sure there are no broken ones. You can get the clip and arms off of the motor shaft without removing the cowl vent if you put masking tape on the paint so you dont scratch it. I made a couple of simple tools for removing the clip & arms that work through the cowl vent slots. Spray some penetrating oil on the pivot points before trying to remove the arms. LockDoc

That penetrating oil might do the trick by itself. Mine were acting the same way. I hit the joints with WD40 and it works normal again. I need a more permanant fix but it you may just have a really sticky setup. I think it's worth a shot.

Thanks very much you guys, what's weird is I talked to the PO & he said he never had to use the wipers, cause he never drove it in the rain after it was painted, so I hope it's just a loose wire or something.

I have been able to give mine a light pop with something blunt to get some wipers on my work truck, although it may have been on a F**D.

I hit there and everywhere there is a joint on those arms you can see under the cowl. If it looked like it moved, I hit it with oil.

Re: Help with Wipers/stuck not wqorking
I hit them all with oil, tried the wipers & they worked, but only in slow mode, as soon as I turned the swith to fast they stop wherever they are, turn it back to slow & it they start working again, kept turning them on & off & then they stopped working again, but keep trying & they will work again, I think it must be in the switch, but I hate to pull the dash for nothing, any of you guys ever have to deal with this?
