posi code

does anyone know the code for a factory posi in the 73-87's? i'm headed out to the junkyard this weekend to find a posi rear end, hopefully i will get a chance to look through all of the trucks, but what are some ways to tell if its an posi without taking the cover off the rear end?

Re: posi code

With the trucks as old as they are there is no way to tell if it is a LSD without removing the cover.

G80 is the option code for them though. In general, the 12bolts have the Eaton clutch style unit, and the 10bolts have the Eaton Gov-Loc.

Re: posi code

If the unit is tight and it is a clutch setup that "could" be fairly accurate, but it the clutches are worn, it will act like an open diff.
The test won't work on a gov-loc though, it uses flyweights to engage, so it will always act like an open until it senses slip.
