Wheels and tires
My project 8 (55pu) just began and I already could need some help. I am installing a Mustang II IFS and will get a Ford 9" rear axle with a four link suspension. I have a 383 callaway competition super natural engine and will have a 4L60E. As I want to put the power of this engine in the street without blowing my tires into rubber clouds, I want to use quite big tires in the rear. The tank and batterie will be moved to the rear too. I think of buying wider fendersand maybe install some wheel tubs? inside the bed. You could help me very much in telling me, which wheel size ( backspace ! ) you are using and what size of tires. The truck will be lowered 4 inches through the IFSm no dropped spindles. Any suggestions are highly appreciated !!

Re: Wheels and tires
I made my own tubs out of trailer fenders I found on the net for about $12 each. Make sure you use plain steel not galvanized. These where 9" wide and will clear a 31" diameter. My tires will be 29" so that will be fine. My '57 fenders are 12" wide (inside dimension) and I made the tubs 4" wide so with 16" there should be enough room for most any tire and rim. I'm thinking 17" x 11". Haven't measured for the exact back spacing yet.

Re: Wheels and tires
On mine I was able to get 30 inch tall by 13.9" tread width drag radial in the fender with only a tub like bondo bobs above. I did narrow my rear to 56 in. But probably could have done the same thing will a differen t off set and a stock camaro rear or nova rear.

Re: Wheels and tires
As I have not ordered my rearend yet, I already thought of getting a narrowed one.
My original fenders have a width of roughly 11 inches. So for me there two alternatives, the 3" wider fenders - but I am not sure how it looks at the truck and it makes it wider at the rear, or to use fender tubs and expand the tires into the bed, maybe woth a narrowed rearend. Maybe I should get the wheels and tires first so that I can measure the width of the rearend. Thanks bondobob and dwcsr for the input.

Re: Wheels and tires
Thats what I did. I got the wheels and tires I wanted on it and then measured up and got the rear narrowed to fit..

Re: Wheels and tires
I guess I saw a triangulated fourlink on one of your pictures.
If this is right, did you build it yourself or where did you get it ?

Re: Wheels and tires
I`ve been ordering Torq Thrust M wheels now with a black center in 10x18 and 9x18 inch.
Now I am looking for Sportsman S/R Tires in 30x12 and 28x10 for the front. I hope it looks good.
