Re: how much do u-joints cost

I paid $10 each the other day when I swapped to a 1 piece. I thought it was a little high, now I know it probably was.

Re: how much do u-joints cost

thanks for the info guys. as far as installation goes, is it as easy as unbolting the 4 retainers and switching it out or is there any shop work to be done?

I'll probably take a flaming for this, but no, they're not easy. They are simple. I do not remember what year GM started but that 76 may have glued in u-joints. You have to take a propane torch and heat the glue until it squeezes out. If someone has done them in the past, this will already have been done.

Changing a u-joint is very simple, but kind of delicate. Some fellows use medeival practices and wind up knocking things out of balance. You need to be diligent when installing them so you don't bend the ears on the driveshaft and so that you don't lay a needle bearing down and bind up the joint.
