67 k20 POS

Just starting a project. Im taking a 67 c10 body and putting it on a 67 k20 running gear. My plan is to put back as near as stock that i can. Im using the 283 engine and body from the c10 and using the 3/4 ton running gear with the 4 speed trans and rockwell transfer case with the dana 44 closed knuckle front end and eaton rearend. It has 456 gears. the original k20 came out with a 292. The name of my project ciomes from when I brought the k20 home the truck had one door, hood and bed missing. The first words out of my wife's mouth was that the truck is a piece of s***. I said give me time and she said what in ten years and i said I hope thats all it takes. Here are some pics of both trucks

Re: 67 k20 POS

nice project,

I'm working on a 68 K-10 and am going with an open knuckle out of an 82 truck if you need closed knuckle parts (1/2 ton). I also have a steering box and some other stock items (marker lights etc..) that you might be need.

are you keeping the chrome mirrors? I have a nice set of white one's if you are looking to trade....i'll pay shipping both ways too..

Mike

Re: 67 k20 POS

Looks like a good truck to start with, I'm doing the same swap with a 72 c/k-20.

Sounds like my wife, I have to keep reminding her that I have less $ in both trucks than two payments on her car. I keep threating to show up at family functions driving the truck, wearing bib over-alls with no shirt and cowboy boots. That usually shuts her up for a while

Keep that 292! It's bigger than a 4.6 'Stang, you can totally call them out... it's fun. This is from N2Billet's 67 SWB, my 'inspirational picture'.

Here's Zeeklu's from his 67 K10 SWB...

Then there's mine, I have the oil bath air cleaner around somewhere.

Starting to smooth the engine, easy without the pesky fenders in the way.

That's $425 sitting there not counting the new Makita grinder.

Re: 67 k20 POS

Thanks for the support. The rearend is a eaton {gm equipment}The 292 motor was missing when i got the k20. I bought the red c10 for 600and the k20 running gear for 350. I feel like the "family has taken me in under their wing." The frame on the c10 and the k20 are different where the steering box mounts up. I would like to change it over to power steering, but dont know what to do about frame difference

Re: 67 k20 POS

WELCOME!!!
The`67s didn`t come with the coventional p/s as we know it today. It was a ram-assist system like on bigger vehicles. There is a spacer offered by www.dennistruckparts.com under exclusive parts.
This will be a great truck once completed. What trans was in the 2wd?I have a`72 K/20 that was done like you are doing.Too bad the 402 from the 2wd didn`t make it into the 4wd`s engine bay.My truck is a`72 K/20 frame with an original unrestored CustomDeluxe/20 Highlander body:
