hey all,
Ive been lurking on here for a while but just finally signed up as a member. You guys sure are a lot of help.You are a life saver when somthing on my truck breaks and i need help fixing it.any ways heres my truck its a 71 c10 with a Caddy 500,t400 combo. the stepside bed is from a mid 70s chevy

Welcome from the great white (almost) north! Gotta love that black primer. Gives it that stealthy look.
How'd that box fit? There was one at the local wreckers without fenders that I could have got cheap that I was going to mount my '68 fenders to. The measurements were the same for length and width, but the depth from floor to top of box rails was about 4" shorter than the '67-72 box. Brian

thanks for the welcome everybody,
Ive been working on it for the last 4 months or so, you know how it goes, you fix something and then a month or 2 down the road you decide to do it different- its neverending kind of like a addiction or something. It seems like every bit of free money I have I spend on this truck Snowbound- the box dimension wise looks just like it was meant to be on there. 4 of the 6 bolt holes line up but I didn't use them because I wanted the bed to sit a little lower so i took all the wood out,tightened up the crossmembers on the bed and then mounted it through the bottom of the crossmembers on the bed so when i put the floor in it you won't see any bolts( im putting in a polished aluminum floor) i used the newer style fenders because I liked the fatter look of them The 50 series tires fit just right under them. other than that It seems to match up pretty well, the bottom of the steps match right with the bottom of the cab.brennecke- i wish i could tell ya but I havent got it totally street worthy yet. I bet it won't have much problem motivating this little truck. the brakes were kinda shot so im working on them and im getting all the fuel leaks taken care of(darn old rubber hose)Ive started it up just sitting in the drive way and it sounds pretty healthy  The Caddy came out of was a 73 cant rember which model But it had only 50,000mi on it and looks to be in pretty good shape. The motor was moved 7" forward so I could use the stock chevy tranny crossmember, it fit in there just like it was meant to go in there. The only thing we had to do was make the cut up front so we could get the oil filter off and on. The only thing i have to do to finish the drivetrain is get a shifter, I was thinking of the B&M Megashifter. we had the drive shaft made with the caddy slip yoke and chevy rear knuckle. The driveshaft is only about 4' long.The Caddy transmissions are looonnnng. I'll have to post some pics of the engine if i can find some.weasel29gm- the wheels are Appliance wheels, i just love the way they look

71MoneyPit, What size are your rear tires? I kinda want to fit as much rubber under there as I can, also, width of the rear tire well the same or different with the later model fenders? Many of us board members are beginning or going to start a cad swap and we all (Especially me!) look forward to your engine photos and of your modified drive shaft. Since you put the motor 7 inches forward, was it better to do it that way to keep the stock cross member or fab a new one? Thanks in advance!

Pumkin Truck- the rears are Remington xt 120. 295-50 r15's and the fronts are 215 60-r15's.
Yes i think it was better to put the motor farther forward and use the stock tranny mount, all you do is take the caddy tranny mount and cut and weld it on to the stock chevy mount. Ill put the Engine pics and other info in a new thread so its easier to read

Bummer you already cut the filter hole...'77 Caddy 425 leaves enough clearance for it without cutting. (That's whats on the way into my one ton Longhorn)
The bed box shuld be the exact same except the fenders and a few holes. Sweet looking rig, and a heluva motor swap too. I haven't even measured mine to see exactly where it is going as far as forward mounting. |
