Wiper Motor - its spins or swivels?
I recently got a used wiper motor from a parts supplier when I was ordering some other parts. I went to install it last night and either I don't have it installed correctly, or maybe the motor isn't working correctly...
The motor when activated spins in one direction the arm attached to the wiper linkage [both slow speed and fast speed work this way]. Problem is the linkage at the wipers binds up before one revolution of the arm can be made. My old wiper motor has been dead for so long I can't remember if it stopped and started to move the wiper linkage or just spun in one direction. I know the remedy is simple, but I haven't figured it out... Any suggestions? |

The motor will spin in one directon, the linkage allows the back and forth. Your linkage may be hooked up wrong

I'll try to setup a different configuration for the linkage. Only one way, apparently the wrong way, was obvious to me, will keep trying!

Re: Wiper Motor - its spins or swivels?
Yes the electric motor travels in one direction and the linkage makes it go back and forth.
Usually there is an offset pin or connection point on the motor to turn the circular motion into linear motion.

In the picture below is a generic wiper linkage setup. In the top one the motor is in the middle and when it turn the offset pin goes around and around making the arms go back and forth.
Sorry I could not find a diagram of a 67-72 linkage online.....

Re: Wiper Motor - its spins or swivels?
Thanks for the picts! I figured it out tonight. I had the whole linkage reversed, wrong wiper swivel [post where the wiper arm mounts] on the wrong side. I purposely didn't break down the linkage when I removed it, but apparently you can still put it backwards even in one piece. Ah, this kind of education is priceless.
