I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

hi i'm new to this forum and to this truck. i just got a 69 c-10.it has a 305 out of a 69 camaro. it has long headers. one side of the exhaust is almost off....the other side is. it's broken at the flange at the end of the header.

I NEED something that will keep the exhaust at or above the frame. i just need to know what will work. if i use stock manifolds which will work? or if i go after market? any help will be great. thanks, vinnie

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

The stock rams horn manifolds will do what you are needing. Look on the parts board for a set. Welcome to the board from MD!!

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

Block huggers and Chevelle 3/4 length headers are good for bottom clearance issues, too.

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

It shouldn't matter about the exhaust manifolds but are you sure it's a 305 out of a 69 Camaro? I thought the 305 wasn't introduced until 1976.

Anyways, I changed headers for ram horns and am much happier and can actually hear the radio now.

Welcome to the board from Missouri.

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

Your not going to be able to use generic block hugger headers with your stock motor mounts. The tubes will hit the frame stands.

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

Hi Vinnie and welcome to the forums. Don't know what you had in mind spending but as said the 3/4 length Chevelle headers would do or stock ramshorns will also. You can shop around and find some used ramshorns or buy brand new ones for around $100 each. Either way there will be some exhaust pipe work to be done also to hook em up.

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

The huggers will work on a 4wd,right?Just asking while we`re on it,I know he has a C/10.True,the 305 was a newer motor.Original base V8 would have been the 307.

No sir, the block huggers wont work. The front tube on ea side will hit the eng mount stand. The manifolds you show wont work either, they are for 73-up. Your best (cheapest bet), would be an old set of ramshorns.... L

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

I don't have any clearance issues with the block huggers on my 70. There's well over an inch of of room between the eng. mount and tube.

Re: I Need Headers, manifold Or Block Huggers

You have to draw your own conclusion. Me and Longhorn have seen them not clear. AO50, says his clear. By the way, those manifolds won't clear either. The reason these trucks used ramshorns is due to the motor mounts. Those manifolds only work on 73 and newer trucks with the clamshell motor mounts.

I know for a fact that the hooker long tubes fit nice.
If you are looking for clearance, a whole lot of people on this site swear by heddman shorties...

This is an old photo, I know it's not the shot you wanted to see but they do fit. I'll try to get some shots of the space between the motor mounts.

Are these block huggers made for these trucks?

See if you can dig up a PN also! Those shorties do look different than the "generic" streetrod shorties in the pic farther up the page. They look like a nice alternative to the chevelle shortie, which is a good header......but looks like it could cause clutch linkage/header interferance problems with the stickshift crowd. L

Here is a picture of the headers I'm using (Headman Headers Long Tube.) They fit fine the only problem is that I'm lowered enough that I'm an inch below the scrub line and the collector will scrape at times over a speed bump even if I take it slow. I'm raising the front about 1.5' and this should solve the problem.

How low is your truck? Perhaps it's too low and may'be even below the scrub line.

Im not sure how low your truck is, but I run Hooker 2452's on my Longhorn(3/5drop) ,& have no issues draggin the headers or pipes. The collectors hang approx 2 " below the frame rails. The Hedmans that I took off, had the dr side collector pointed toward the ground, & much lower. How much drop is on your truck? L

Vinne how low is your truck??? Mine is too low and I'm raising it 1.5 inches and this should cure the problem. By doing this the long tubes should work. Post a picture of your truck.

Is your truck lowered and if it is how mutch??? This could be your problem!
