Emblems
Anyone know who does a good job restoring the original emblems. Previous owner painted them all bass ackwards. Or should I just get reproduction? I've heard they look a little different.

Re: Emblems
I repainted my 'Cheyenne 10' and 'Super' emblems as the original red was chalky and most of it was gone-
1) removed old emblem paint w/ steel wool 2) cleaned emblem REAL good w/ thinner 3) (MOST IMPORTANT part)- covered all raised chrome areas not to be painted w/ a couple coats of liquid wax on a q-tip (I used xymol). The liquid wax works as masking- use a toothpick or awl or other detail tool to get the wax just right, esp around the chamfered edges. DO NOT WIPE OFF THE WAX. 4) Protect the rest of the body- I used a trash bag taped to the side and x-acto'd around the emblems. 5) Hit the emblem w/ a few coats of spray paint. I used Testors model red in the little can. 6) Let the paint dry THEN rub off the wax. Like I said, this was the 'Cheyenne 10' and 'Super' symbols and they came out great (and only cost me like $2 plus wax I already had). Not sure how I'd work on the engine emblems since they're ribbed on the back but if you cleaned the old paint off you should be good to go. Sorry no pics 'cause I'm at work but I'll see if I can remember when I get back to the house. |
