How do I know if my steering gear box is any good??

I have never driven the truck, I am doing a full restoration, but how can I tell if my power steering box is any good?
it is out of the truck already with all hoses off, is there a way I can test it or check it?? do they rebuild easy?

If you're going through the process of doing a full resto, just replace it. I do believe they can be rebuilt though if you want to keep it original. Although from being down here in Missouri, I wouldn't have a clue as to where to get one rebuilt in Canada.

well if it is good, I'd rather not just simply buy another one and chuck mine.. I try not make a habbit of throwing good parts away because they aren't shiney
I want to check it or test it and determine if it is still good or not.

anyone work on these much? or at all?

About all you can do is check for oil leaks and see if it is smooth turning from lock to lock. Check for excessive freeplay.
