drive shaft
I am putting in a single drive shaft in my 71 gmc, the cross member from the carrier barring is in the way, its a long box, and i was wondering if i could take the whole thing out or just cut part of it away? thanks for any help, or maybe if you have some pics on how you did it that would help thanks

72 C20 with a 350. Previous owner swapped the 4 speed for a 700R4 auto. I'm retired and volunteer at state and national parks. I spend summers in Oregon. Found this truck for $800 and offered $600. Paid for it with $$ made from recycling bottles and cans. Oregon pays .05 per can/bottle. Now doing restification with recycled parts purchased with recycling $$. |

trim it out of the way as best as you can, should only have to cut off the bottom of the hole in the member

This has been dicussed a lot. DO NOT PUT A ONE PIECE SHAFT IN A LONG BED!!!! It will give you a wobble you won't want at higher speeds.
If you do put one in let me know where your at, I'll send a tow truck, Just kidding

Yes, this has been discussed quite a bit lately. Do a search and see my comments on this. I've had pretty good luck with the 1 piece in the lwb...

I think it would all depend on who built the new shaft. What are the specs on your one piece in yours Brad?
Personally I don't think that I'd want a 1 piece in my lwb since that would be a lot of metal rotating at too high of a speed for my tastes. The slightest bit of wobble or whip will tear it apart, but like anything, if you want to spend the money to have it built to handle it, it can be done. Scott
