Re: Well I Think Its Gone

call the local wrecking yards and find another el cheapo and drive it till it pops too

Or you could do the responsible thing and put some money and time into it

How about getting a pool going? Sell each guess at $1.00 per.Brick the throttle, video camera a stopwatch to verify when it blows, split the pot with the winner & your heads are paid for.

Re: Well I Think Its Gone

blown muffler (nasty backfire) + original 307 (nylon cam gear teeth) + timing changing = time for a chain and gear set.

Re: Well I Think Its Gone

Is the motor knocking or ticking.Lay your ear(with a screwdriver or something)on the timing cover. If your timing chain is stretched or teeth are bad,the chain will slap the cover, especially when letting off and quieter at idle.

Re: Well I Think Its Gone

Once I had a 305 in my Chevy van I thought for sure had wiped the cam as it was smoking and popping thru the carb. I was ready to junk the whole truck when just for the heck of it I pulled off the valve covers and found that a pushrod had pluged up and since it didnt get oil to that rocker it wore the pushrod down till the rocker fell off and that intake valve didnt open anymore. A second hand rocker and a pushrod latter and I drove that truck 2 more years till it rusted out and Ill bet you could start it now and it would still go. After that repair it was brand new again .
