Yes, I hope you weren't injured...
Second...good thing that opening was there for you to drive into.. Probably would have been much worse had it been a solid wall...

Meanwhile, I guess you may not have thought about it in the moment, but was the e-brake busted also?

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
ohw man if you took some more care of that truck you probably would still had brakes , the brake system is made out of two sytems one brakes the left front and right rear the other the right front and left rear you allready pushed through one of the two before or forgot to fill the system up both couldve been avoided theres only a one in a milion chance you pushed through both the brakesystems at the same time .
theres a big chance the frame is bend looking at the pics , seems the bed and the interiour are still salvageable maybe the engine and box too the cab has been hit at the top on the A pillar , i would buy another truck and sell/use this one for parts , dont forget to overhaul the brakes on the new truck this time before taking it to the road for those who dont know : you need to chainge the brakefluid every 2 years cause it atracts water and that lowers the boilingpoint of the brakefluid causing brakefade when driving downhill corosion inside the calipers and metal brakeline and stuff like that . also use the right type of brakefluid dot 4 (or 5 im not realy sure) is syntetic and if you put that together with the lower grade mineral oil it will atack the rubbers inside the brakesystem .... be warned

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
I am curious how it can split the braking when there is only one brake line going to the rear? Pascal's law says a confined fluid exerts equal pressure in all directions.
That would mean both rear brakes would get the same pressure, and stopping power. nick

Glad you are o.k. Sucks about the truck though. Ya know, the same thing happens to the blinker fluid.

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
Really sorry to hear about the loss dude. Hopefully it's some simple sheet metal. Good to hear you weren't hurt.
On the topic of brake systems, for anybody really interested, todays vehicles use both front/rear and diagonal split brake systems depending on how they meet FMVSS 135 failed brake system testing requirements. That says (among other things) that if you lose half of your brakes, the car has to still be somewhat safe and driveable. So it all depends on the vehicle. Case in point, almost all trucks are f/r split. Almost all passenger cars are diagonal. Corvettes are f/r split though. It just depends on what they can get away with as far as failed system testing. And yeah, brake fluid most certainly absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and from condensation. It is designed to do that because a nice bubble of water in your brakes would be catastrophic once it boiled under heavy braking. That is why brake fluid is very well sealed at the parts store. If you have an open container sitting on a shelf that is not sealed fully, it's no good after about 4 months or so. It's called wet brake fluid then. Brake fluid is called dry fluid when it's new and all of you who have done brakes and felt how dry your hands feel after working on them, you can start to appreciate how agressive brake fluid is at pulling moisture out of a system. So you need to change it every few years. Of course, in the US, we don't do it, so we all have DOT 3 in our cars instead of the better performing but lower boiling point DOT 4 that is in European cars. They change the fluid over there. If you want to be really lazy but still sort of responsible about it, you can get a new (uncontaminated!) turkey baster and pull out all of the nasty black fluid out of the reservoir and fill new in there. It will disburse the moisture and lower the average content, but it's MUCH better just to bleed the brakes. Imagine how all of your brakes rust from the inside out when there is water suspended in your fluid. Getting down from the soapbox now. As if anybody is that interested in brakes anyway.

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
ToddSS, thanks for the info. I was under the impression (likely based on advertising) that modern cars use a dual-diagonal braking system -- that is, both front and one rear operating on half the system, and both front and the opposite rear using the other half...

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
It's true that brakes often get overlooked. I know me for example was concerned just to get my truck running and as long as I had brakes I was good. Didn't really check them at all just made sure they worked. Another member on this board (not naming names but he knows who he is) and I were cruising around in his 72 Blazer when his brakes started to fade, luckily we were near his house and we drove it slow back and were able to get it back without a problem but it was a little nerving when the pedal hit the floor and we just kept rolling along.

Re: my baby got hurt :.(
To add to Kevin's point, it's split front to back. They didn't start splitting the system diagonally until the big three started pumping out FWD econoboxes. Trucks stuck with the front to back brake split.
Bummer about the accident. As always it could have been worse with people getting injured. It does remind me of a buddy of mine that bought a barn fresh 69 Blazer immediatly lifted it, big tires fresh engine the works. Only thing he overlooked was the brakes. Bit him in the backside when the master cylinder failed and he proceeded to run over the trunk of the car in front of him at a stoplight. didn't hurt the k5, but it mangled that car and his wallet took a beating with the insurance claim. Everybody focuses on building stuff faster/taller/lower ect but people often overlook brakes as an upgrade point. It's even more important when you put bigger tires on for the 4x4 guys or the 22inch rim crowd. Large tires or big wheels equal more rotating mass to try to stop. Add big tires to a drum brake D44 front axle and you need a football field just to stop in. Not trying to rub salt in the wounds or kick anybody while they are down, it's just often overlooked.
