5.3 in 81'

Has anyone here put one of these motors in one of our trucks? I have a 06' 5.3 and 4L80E with wiring harness and computer, trans dapt motor mount conversion brackets. I was thinking of doing an LS6 cam and spring swap. What do you guys think, it should be pretty straight forward. Just wandering if anyone had details.

Dont put the ls6 cam in it, if you are going through the effort and want a decent cam, go with a 224/224 with about .58x lift. You cannot go wrong with it. You will not be happy with the ls6 cam. My 81 has a 5.3 in it, it is very straight forward.

Seems you have the right ideas so far, you are going to have to move your trans crossmember for the 80e....I think you are going to have to move it toawrds the back of the truck. Make sure to watch the driver side engine cup, I make to relocate the hole on mine about an inch closer to the engine, to get the engine to sit level.

Do you plan on doing the wiring yourself or have a custon harness done? If you want one done, I can reccommend a guy to you that is awesome at what he does, Dana @ LT1wiring www.lt1350.com. He does awesome work, and is relatively cheap compared to others.

Next is your fuel system. Being your engine is a 2006, you probably have the single line fuel rail. This can be a problem for some, but I have a solve for it. You are going to need a fuel pressure regulated fuel filter from a 1997-2004 corvette, three 3/8" female quick connect fittings, one 5/16" female quick connect, and some line. I used braided stainless on mine throughout. You are also going to need a new pump and fuel pick up, I used a delco replacement E3210 that I picked up from Autozone. The pickup I purchased off of ebay for 39 dollars new. It is for the 87 tbi chevy trucks.

I have a new Carter inline fuel injection pump. Would this work if I made my own metal fuel lines?

Did you have to do any other mods? I've been reading on LS1 tech and a couple of guys had to notch their frame to clear the pass. side manifold. As far as the wiring I'm going to do it myself and then have a "hook up" program it for me.

I used 2001-2002 f body manifolds, I had to grind the pass. manifold a bit where the egr stand off would be. I took it down about an 1/8". The drivers side fell on, fit perfect. I wouldnt grind the frame until you decided to put some long tubes on it.
